Overview

The Laboratory Assistant will assist in the daily operations of various laboratories at the HRBRC by performing daily tasks as assigned by their supervisor, including operation and routine maintenance on 3D printers and other equipment, post-processing printed models, managing inventory, documenting incidents, and supporting light 3D modeling and database tasks. The Laboratory Assistant ensures the lab remains clean, organized, safe, and efficient while providing support to staff and stakeholders.
This Position will be based out of Hampton Roads Biomedical Research Consortium headquarters in Portsmouth, VA and the Assembly Space in Norfolk, VA.


Responsibilities

Inventory and Database Management
    Track, organize, and document supplies, materials, and equipment that comes into and out of the labs.
  • Enter, update, and maintain lab data, including inventory levels, maintenance events, and incidents in appropriate databases.
  • Generate simple reports on usage, maintenance, and inventory levels.
  • Track time worked and efforts made.

Light 3d Modeling

  • Assist with basic 3d model edits or simple 3d model modifications
  • Prepare files for 3d printing.
  • Clean and calibrate 3D printers.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
  • Monitor prints for quality and accuracy.

Other Tasks as Assigned

  • Support lab staff with administrative or operational duties.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
  • Participate in special projects or research initiatives, as needed.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic computer literacy (e.g., email, spreadsheets, file management).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work responsibly in a professional environment.
  • Willingness to learn and follow safety protocols, including use of proper PPE

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies or experience with 3D printers.
  • Basic knowledge of 3D modeling software (e.g., Blender, Maya).
  • Experience working in a laboratory or technical environment.
