Critical Home Repair Support Specialist

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The Critical Home Repair Assistant Coordinator role will support the Critical Home Repair (CHR) team in Family Services. This includes an active role in assisting in the application and intake process and helping to plan and strategize new and efficient ways to serve the families in the CHR program. The primary office is in the Southern Region with occasional need to travel to the Northern Region. The CHR Support Specialist will help expand the Aging in Place Initiative with the implementation of workshops and forming community partnerships. The CHR Support Specialist will also assist in enhancing the Community Service program requirement by creating and implementing engagement options for families, as well as assisting in planning group projects.

  • Assist the Critical Home Repair Family Support Supervisor in the Aging in Place initiative, in the development and implementation of community service, and in processing homeowner families through the repair program.
  • Assist application intake for new home repair applications.
  • Assist in Critical Home Repair Support team in planning events such as Critical Home Repair Home Blessings and Critical Home Repair Family Reunion.
  • Assist the Family Services Department in recruitment efforts by attending events, distributing information on Habitat's programs, and collecting documentation to complete candidates' applications.

This position will focus on homeowner services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: Our offices and AmeriCorps apartments are less than 15 minutes away from uptown Charlotte, a three-hour drive from the beaches of North and South Carolina, and a two-hour drive from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Charlotte offers a wide range of entertainment options including many museums, parks, and restaurants. The city is home to several professional sports teams, including the NFL's Carolina Panthers and the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. Additionally, Charlotte hosts a variety of cultural events and festivals throughout the year.
  • Unique projects: This member will assist with the planning of our annual Critical Home Repair Family Reunion, an event that brings hundreds of families served together to share their stories and celebrate the completion of their Critical Home Repairs.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
