SUMMARY

Ajax Building Company, part of STO Building Group, is seeking a Quality Control Manager to oversee construction quality on mission critical projects, including data centers and other facilities where system reliability and operational performance are essential.

This role is responsible for implementing project quality control plans and verifying compliance across civil, structural, and architectural (CSA) work and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. The Quality Control Manager will coordinate inspections, testing, and corrective actions, working closely with project teams, trade partners, design professionals, owner representatives, and commissioning providers to support quality from preconstruction through turnover.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented construction professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to hold teams accountable while maintaining collaborative working relationships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific quality control plans aligned with contract documents, owner requirements, applicable codes, and Ajax standards.
  • Review drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and installation requirements to identify quality risks and resolve discrepancies before work proceeds.
  • Conduct and document inspections of construction activities, materials, and equipment across CSA and MEP scopes, including sitework, concrete, structural systems, building envelope, interior finishes, and mission critical infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with project management, superintendents, and trade partners to establish inspection and testing requirements, hold points, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead preparatory meetings, first-install inspections, and ongoing quality reviews to establish expectations and verify consistent execution.
  • Verify that materials and equipment comply with approved submittals and are properly received, stored, protected, and installed.
  • Coordinate required testing and inspections with qualified testing agencies, special inspectors, manufacturers, design professionals, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Verify that testing and measuring equipment has current calibration documentation, as required, and that test results are accurately recorded and maintained.
  • Identify and document nonconforming work, coordinate corrective actions, and verify resolution before affected work is concealed or subsequent activities proceed.
  • Support commissioning readiness by verifying installation completeness, tracking deficiencies, and coordinating quality documentation with project teams and commissioning providers.
  • Maintain organized inspection reports, testing records, deficiency logs, photographs, and other quality documentation to support audits, owner reporting, and project closeout.
  • Monitor quality trends and communicate risks, recurring issues, and corrective action status to project leadership.
  • Coordinate punch list completion and verify that required quality records, as-built information, and turnover documentation are complete.
  • Reinforce Ajax's commitment to safety, integrity, and teamwork while coordinating quality activities with project schedules and construction sequencing.
  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant construction experience.
  • 7+ years of construction quality control experience required.
  • Strong experience supporting mission critical facilities, data centers, or similarly complex projects required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, quality control processes, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience overseeing quality control for civil, structural, and architectural (CSA) scopes, along with working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems and coordination requirements between disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, testing requirements, and manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Experience developing and implementing quality control plans, coordinating inspections and testing, and managing deficiencies through resolution.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes, system readiness requirements, and construction turnover documentation.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Clear communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with field teams, trade partners, owners, consultants, and all levels of management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel, and construction project management and quality documentation platforms.
