Role description

Structured Cabling Technician

The Role

UST is searching for a Structured Cabling Technician to install, dress, label, and validate cabling on our Fremont factory floor. This is a hands-on role focused on rack integration and data center-grade cabling, in high-density, cutting-edge cabinets, where quality workmanship, speed, and adherence to specifications matter most. We are prioritizing proven practical cabling skill over formal education or advanced communication skills.

This position is on a factory production line where racks and systems are built and shipped to end customers; it is not a lab or data center role.

What You'll Do

* Install, route, and secure copper (Cat 6/6A) and fiber optic cabling in server racks and cabinets according to cabling maps, build sheets, and project specifications.

* Terminate copper and fiber connections, including patch panels, jacks, and fiber connectors (LC, MPO/MTP).

* Dress, bundle/Coil wrap, strain relief, and manage cables to a clean, consistent standard using velcro, ties, cable managers, and routing hardware, as needed. Familiarity with zero-U patching a plus.

* Label all cables and ports accurately per the labeling scheme.

* Test and verify cabling with copper certifiers, fiber light sources, power meters, and visual fault locators, and record results.

* Inspect and clean fiber end faces before connection.

* Trace, troubleshoot, and rework faulty or mis-routed cables.

* Install and mount rack hardware such as patch panels, cable managers, PDUs, and rails.

* Complete simple build checklists and work order records accurately.

* Keep the work area clean and organized, and follow all factory safety and ESD procedures.

This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.

What You Need

* High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or industry certification (e.g., BICSI, Fluke CCTT, CFOT) is a plus.

* 2+ years of hands-on structured cabling, low-voltage, rack integration, or data center cabling experience.

* Proficiency terminating and testing copper cabling; fiber termination and testing experience strongly preferred.

* Ability to read and follow cabling maps, rack elevations, build sheets, and labeling standards.

* Skilled use of hand tools, power tools, crimpers, punch-down tools, and cable testers.

* Familiarity with TIA/EIA cabling standards and cable management best practices.

* Strong manual dexterity and an eye for neat, consistent workmanship.

* Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or on a team under direction of floor leads.

* Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions and report issues to a lead.

* Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods throughout the shift.

* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

* Adherence to factory safety, PPE, and ESD requirements.
