Job Summary

The Training Development Consultant serves as the primary operational and technical support role for faculty using Canvas, Learning Tools Interoperability (LTIs), digital content platforms, AI-enabled workflows, and enterprise learning applications. The role requires the ability to translate technical processes into usable training and documentation; support faculty in effective, accessible, and responsible use of instructional technologies, coordinate with college, district, vendor, and other stakeholders; and adapt to rapidly changing technology environments with no training, including artificial intelligence tools and automation workflows.

The position works under the direction of the Faculty Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The Faculty Director establishes academic priorities, provides strategic leadership, and makes faculty-development and instructional design decisions. The Training Development Consultant operationalizes those priorities by developing resources, managing systems and workflows, providing technical assistance, and maintaining implementation and participation data.

Additional Information

This is a short term assignment with a projected end date of June 30, 2027 with renewal based on available funds and the needs of MCCCD.

Essential Functions

(40%) Canvas, LTI, Systems Administration, and Technical Support - Provides full technical and operational support for the Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. Serves as a college-level Canvas administrator, serves on the LMS Core committee and works with vendor to ensure Canvas is functional, accessible, secure, and appropriate for instructional use. Triages and resolve help desk tickets to provide first-line support and advanced troubleshooting for Canvas, LTIs, accessibility tools, multimedia tools, and related enterprise systems. Supports testing and deployment of Canvas features, LTIs in live environments, testing environments, and data recovery environments. Manages contracts, privacy, security, and accessibility processes for LTIs.

(30%) Technical Training, Faculty Consultation, Documentation, and Instructional Technology Support - Design, develop, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate training materials and events for faculty development that includes workshops, webinars, tutorials, demonstrations, self-paced modules, job aids, guides, etc. related to Canvas, instructional technology, enterprise applications, AI, accessibility, and online learning. Creates and maintains documentation standards, knowledge base, training repositories, step-by-step tutorials, and instructional videos. Assist faculty with instructional strategies and technologies. Ability to learn new applications quickly without formal training.

(20%) Technical Project Management, Implementation, and Cross-Functional Coordination - Coordinates technical projects, pilots, implementations, training rollouts, and ongoing support processes related to CTL functions and initiatives. Manages short-term and long-term projects and coordinates stakeholders, timelines, resources, communication, and support. Participates in college and district committees, workgroups, and CTL collaborations related to Canvas, AI, assessment, accessibility, professional learning, and instructional technology / design.

(10%) CTL Operations, Communication, Training Evaluation - Supports CTL communication and evaluates training effectiveness. Develops and uses surveys, usage data, help desk trends, and other feedback tools to evaluate the effectiveness of training, documentation, technology support, and CTL services. Works with the Faculty Director to determine which CTL resources and services are being used and producing successful results. Helps maintain CTL communication channels, calendars, training schedules, resource repositories, and service information. Contributes to a welcoming, human-centered CTL environment that balances technology support with relationship-based faculty consultation. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design, training and development, education, or directly related field and two (2) years of experience in training and development, and assessment or evaluation.

OR

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in instructional design, training and development, education, or directly related field and four (4) years of experience in training and development, and assessment or evaluation.

OR

High School/G.E.D from a regionally accredited institution and six (6) years of experience in training and development, and assessment or evaluation.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Two (2) or more years of experience as a Learning Management System administrator, such as Canvas, Blackboard, or a comparable platform with demonstrated experience administering Canvas, managing permissions and settings, supporting system operations, and resolving basic through advanced technical issues.
  2. LTI and educational technology management experience evaluating, configuring, testing, deploying, and supporting LTIs and instructional technologies, including accessibility, privacy, security, vendor, and contract considerations.
  3. Technical troubleshooting and learning agility with demonstrated ability to diagnose complex technology problems, identify solutions, document resolutions, and learn unfamiliar applications independently and quickly.
  4. Technical training and documentation with experience developing and delivering hands-on technology training, tutorials, job aids, instructional videos, knowledge-base articles, and self-paced learning resources for users with varied technical abilities.
  5. Experience managing short-term and long-term projects, including coordinating stakeholders, timelines, resources, budgets, and deliverables.
  6. Demonstrated ability consulting with faculty and use of surveys, data, and participant feedback.
  7. Demonstrated technical proficiency in systems administration, spreadsheets, databases, automated workflows, and modern workplace platforms such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Webex, and Articulate. Experience with LTI standards, emerging AI technologies such as Gemini, Google Apps Script, and local small language models, as well as video editing, closed captioning, and virtual reality technologies.
  8. One (1) year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience within the past two (2) years.

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
