About this Position
Pinyon is seeking an experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) to provide on-call, as-needed support for client projects, with a strong focus on work for federal government clients and federal facilities.
Primary tasks for this position will involve providing comprehensive health, safety, and industrial hygiene consultative services in support of federal projects, including onsite or oversight of hazard evaluations and monitoring, health and safety training, employee exposure assessments, indoor air quality surveys, data analysis, report preparation, report review and approval, and technical writing.
Work is assigned on an as-needed basis and will vary based on client project schedules. Ideal candidates will have experience working on federal facilities or supporting federal clients and be comfortable working independently in the field, coordinating with clients and project teams, and producing defensible field documentation and technical work with limited day-to-day oversight.
Essential Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conduct or oversee sampling in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as any internal company/organization policies
  • Perform unsupervised field tasks, Safety and Health program evaluations, indoor air sampling, building drawings, sample labeling, etc.
  • Assist with planning, executing, analyzing and reporting as assigned on projects
  • Assist clients in drafting and implementing OSHA compliant programs, develop and deliver OSHA compliant worker training programs
  • Some travel within the U.S. may be required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) registration required
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental & Occupational Health, or a related science field is required
  • Minimum of 10 years of industrial hygiene experience
  • Experience on Federal Facilities is strongly preferred
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing reports documenting industrial hygiene concerns potentially including asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, radon, noise, illumination, chemical hazards, and other industrial hazards.
  • Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification with annual refresher preferred (Pinyon will provide training or recertification if needed)
  • Hands-on experience with field instruments such as personal noise dosimeters, air sampling pumps, and indoor air quality (IAQ) monitors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to support other Environmental Service areas as needed
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a background check

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
The essential functions of this position may include:
  • Working in office, industrial, construction, and field environments.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods, including on uneven terrain.
  • Using industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Working in outdoor weather conditions and around noise, dust, or other site-specific conditions.
