Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate within Cancer Epidemiology and Health Outcomes at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will primarily investigate how long-term exposure to outdoor air pollution affects survival, health-related quality of life, fatigue, sleep, systemic inflammation, and cardiac injury among Black breast cancer survivors participating in the Women's Circle of Health Follow-Up Study, a population-based cohort of more than 1,900 breast cancer survivors in New Jersey.

This project integrates residential histories, geospatial air-pollution estimates, cancer registry data, medical and pharmacy records, patient-reported outcomes, and circulating biomarkers. The postdoctoral associate will receive mentored training in environmental epidemiology, cancer survivorship, exposure assessment, survival analysis, mixture modeling, biomarker analysis, and health disparities research. The position will provide opportunities to lead manuscripts and presentations, work towards developing an independent research program, contribute to grant applications, and pursue different funding opportunities including state funding and career development awards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assists the Principal Investigator(s) (PI) on ongoing research.
  • Actively participates and leads data analysis and the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
  • Assists the PI with the preparation of grant proposals.
  • Assists with IRB submissions of ongoing research projects.
  • Gives oral presentations of the research.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, D.Phil.) in public health/epidemiology or related field of study.
  • Consideration to interview will also be given to applicants who are in the process of completing their doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, D.Phil.) in public health/epidemiology or related field of study. Documentation of the required doctoral degree completion must be provided prior to commencement of employment.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated excellent writing and statistical and SAS and/or R programming skills.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience in cancer epidemiology or environmental epidemiology research is preferred.
  • Proven experience in designing epidemiologic studies as demonstrated through peer reviewed publications and presentations at national/international conferences.
  • Coursework in advanced epidemiologic methods (causal inference models), environmental mixtures, and biostatistics (survival analysis, multivariable regression).
  • History of funding for pilot studies, travel awards, or distinction in conference presentations is a plus.
