Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.

In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Watershed Planning Specialist for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This role supports applications developed by the Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis, enabling collaborative, interactive web mapping tools for research and project initiatives.

Among the key duties of this position are:

  • Conducts geospatial analysis of watershed-related environmental conditions to support environmental planning and location-specific decision-making.
  • Develops and implements prioritization models for green infrastructure to support integration into web-based mapping applications.
  • Prepares and delivers written reports, presentations, and other communications on watershed green infrastructure opportunities to professional audiences and stakeholders.
  • Interprets water resource regulations, permitting requirements, and related environmental policies to support watershed planning efforts.
  • Communicates project progress, status, resource needs, and work schedules with the CRSSA Director and GIS staff to ensure effective coordination and minimize disruptions to ongoing project activities.

Salary Details $40 - $60 per hour

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant advanced experience in watershed modeling and geospatial analysis.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with ESRI ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, including Arcade coding.
  • Knowledge and experience with coding with R or Python to automate GIS and statistical analysis workflows.
  • Professional work experience in GIS analysis.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications for computer administration and support.
  • Ability to work within a team environment as well as individually.
