What to Expect
Tesla's North America Factory and Refinery Infrastructure Engineering Team s seeking an experienced Power Systems Electrical Engineer to join our Central Engineering Infrastructure Design Team in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will specialize in full power system designs tailored to industrial and manufacturing facilities. A strong sense of ownership and pride in quality work is a must for this role along with excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with other engineering disciplines, and maintenance and operations teams.
What You'll Do
- Develop electrical long lead equipment specifications and manage full procurement lifecycle for electrical equipment including but not limited to: HV-MV and MV-LV transformers, MV GIS, 5kV Switchgear/MCCs and 480V Switchgear/MCCs
- Perform design reviews for all long lead electrical equipment and attend factory acceptance tests to verify fabrication and function test are per the approved by Tesla release to manufacture drawings
- Create detailed engineering design deliverables for medium and low voltage power system including but not limited to: one-lines, schematics, point to point wiring, cable schedules, equipment layout drawings, equipment elevations, nameplate schedules, installation details, etc.
- Collaborate with construction, facilities, operations, and maintenance teams throughout the medium and low voltage electrical power system design process, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and operability
- Manage the creation of the electrical power system study per the latest onelines with SKM and/or eTAP. Use the model to generate arc flash incident energy, short circuit current, load flow, motor starting, trip curve coordinations, etc to support project design and development
- Write detailed engineering basis of design or scopes of work for outside EPC firms and manage firms throughout the design process
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electrical power systems or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in power engineering
- Experience using SKM, eTAP, AutoCAD and Revit
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Good communication skills for interfacing with engineers, vendors, and installation teams
