OverviewThe Code Enforcement Officer II is the journey level class in the Code Enforcement Officer series and is responsible for performing the full scope of assigned duties. Incumbents become skilled in making inspections and enforcing codes and regulations in a broad range of building and related codes. Primary ResponsibilitiesThe work requires independence and discretion in working with the public and in conducting field inspections. An incumbent may advance to the next higher classification of Code Enforcement Officer III upon meeting the employment standards for that class, recommendation of the Department Head, and approval from the City Manager. This classification differs from the next lower classification of Code Enforcement Officer I by the performance of the full range of duties working with minimal supervision and performing more complex assignments in all areas. Minimum Qualifications
Additional InformationOnly those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process. Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list. Appointment will be contingent upon an extensive background check, pre-employment physical and drug screen. The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review: Qualifying Only; Oral Interview: 100% Weight Value. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list. Applicants who require special examination accommodations due to a disability should contact the Human Resources Department five (5) business days prior to any scheduled examination at (559) 661-5404. Applicants may be eligible for Veterans Preference Points (5 points) and should attach a DD214 to their employment application for consideration of this preference. OverviewThe Code Enforcement Officer III is the advanced journey level class in the Code Enforcement Officer series and is responsible for performing the full scope of assigned duties. Incumbents are skilled in making complex inspections and enforcing codes and regulations in a broad range of building and related codes. Under general supervision performs the most complex assignments in the inspection of residential dwellings and commercial buildings to identify violations and to cite and enforce provisions of the City Municipal Code and California Health and Safety Code; recommends improvements in neighborhoods with regard to unsafe and substandard buildings; performs other related duties as required. Primary ResponsibilitiesThe work requires independence and discretion in working with the public and in conducting field inspections. The incumbent is expected to be able to provide lead direction to lower level staff. This classification differs from the next higher classification of Code Enforcement Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overall management of the Code Enforcement Division.
