LIBRARY CLERK - HOURLY (MULTIPLE VACANCIES SYSTEMWIDE)

Library Operations & Patron Experiences

Number of Positions: Multiple

Starting Salary: $22.82/hourly

This position is open to current AFSCME BIDDERS AND the PUBLIC. Only current City employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4, & 5 are considered BIDDERS and are eligible to bid. Qualified BIDDERS who properly submit a bid application will receive preference over any non-bidders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Under supervision, provide public service to library patrons. Charge and discharge library materials, collect fees, register, and maintain database records. Assist patrons with general inquiries and material searches. Processes applications for library cards by reviewing required documents and entering patron data into integrated library system. Assist with processing of library materials. Sort and distribute mail and perform opening and closing desk procedures. Perform data entry, word processing, filing, and shelving of materials. Assist with Holds, interlibrary loan, statistical, and cash reports and maintenance of the newspaper and magazine collection. May assist with library outreach. Works as part of a team to meet city and library goals. Participates in professional development. Interprets the Library's policies and procedures to the public in a customer friendly manner. Upholds the Library's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Performs related duties as assigned.

LOCATION: Various

DAYS OFF: Two days off per week

SHIFT: Will be required to work some evenings and weekends

HOURS: 80 hours per month to be scheduled during normal unit hours

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED) plus six months of customer service or clerical work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Selected Bidders will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Experience working or volunteering for a public library
  • Currently a student majoring in Library Science
  • Bookstore/retail/customer service experience
