Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Director and Associate Director of the AI Institute for Next Generation Food Systems (AIFS), the AgTech Workforce and Community Education Specialist will provide coordination and program management for networking, outreach, education, engagement and program documentation activities. In collaboration with the Director, Associate Director, and stakeholders associated with AIFS grants, the Community Education Specialist will plan and execute workforce development and community engagement programs. The Community Education Specialist will also collaborate with AIFS staff to design and deliver trainings on technologies, tools and resources to advance the knowledge base among participants of agricultural technologies relevant to AIFS grants and its mission. In collaboration with the grant writer, provide domain and educational expertise to support the development of grant and contract proposals that aim to secure additional funding for collaborative projects. Assist with the communications about AIFS workforce development and trainings, prior to, during, and after the events.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Associate degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Continuing education in related field required.
  • Experience in independently developing, documenting and delivering trainings and curricula.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering trainings to groups, both online and in person.
  • Demonstrated experience developing workforce development trainings and/or programs.
  • Demonstratable portfolio of presentations for trainings; Demonstratable proficiency engaging an audience in a presentation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office365 Suite apps; Proficiency with similar Google tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. degree and/or equivalent experience in a field related to education, agriculture, public relations, technology or a similar field.
  • Degree or course work in agriculture and/or agriculture technology and/oror AI; and collaborating with university-based researchers.
  • Familiarity with: CA state policy context and national level related to agriculture and/or ag tech education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Department Overview

Within the UC Davis Office of Research, the AI Institute for Next Generation Food Systems (AIFS) operates as a department that leads a multi-university effort to conduct research into the transforming the food system via AI. AIFS is also the lead organization for grants from the National Science Foundation and Google.org, funding the AI Institutes Virtual Organization (AIVO). AIVO coordinates programs that benefit all (currently) 29 national AI institutes (see aiinstitutes.org).

As part of the goals of many grants, there is a workforce and community engagement component, whereby the future workforce that will be working in an increasingly AI-infused and enabled environment needs to understand how AI is and will be impacting their work world. The engagements are led or co-led by AIFS staff, whereby AIFS plans the engagements and manages them.
