SUMMARY:

Reports to the Director of Cardiovascular Service line at Rhode Island Hospital. Under the direction of the Division Directors of the Cardiovascular Institute, and the Administrative Director, is responsible for the organization of clinical services, onboarding, training, and evaluation of Advanced Practice Providers. Creates a dyad relationship with the physician directors of Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Structural Heart Programs. Key member of leadership team in conjunction with Program Managers. Also, responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining other subspecialty programs within the Cardiovascular Service Line, including but not limited to, electrophysiology and structural heart. Leadership role with expectations of honesty, integrity, credibility and vision to engage staff to achieve overall goals. Ability to motivate and influence staff's commitment to the organization's success. Clinical responsibilities include providing direct patient care with physician collaboration. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in, develops, and implements strategic objectives for Advanced Practice Providers to practice at the fullest capacity of their license.

  • Spearhead initiatives to improve patient throughput, reduce inefficiencies, and improve quality of care as part of the CVI leadership team.

  • Responsible for collaboration on planning, direction, and operation of the administrative and clinical aspects of subspecialty programs. Play a key role in program development, growth, and operations

  • Develop and implement business plans to support the goals and strategies of the organization.

  • Continuously assess outpatient flow model to maximize MD and APP patient schedules to improve patient access to care and streamline access to electrophysiology procedures and Afib Clinic

  • Applies business and management expertise to set direction, measure results, resolve problems, and achieve operational and financial objectives.

  • Serves on various organizational committees and projects to share in decision-making concerning the delivery of care and operations of the clinical organization.

  • Develops, implements, and maintains professional development activities including on-boarding, Advanced Practice Provider competencies, mentoring and preceptor programs.Mentor direct reports to promote professional growth, job satisfaction, and clinical excellence

  • Participates in the hiring of Advanced Practice Providers, including initial review of applications, selection of candidates, and participation in the interviewing and final selection process.

  • Provides direct leadership to the inpatient and outpatient Electrophysiology and Structural Heart Advanced Practice Providers including staffing, scheduling, coordinating staff meetings, providing clinical updates, reward and recognition, and collaboration with other APP teams.

  • Complete and publish quality initiatives to support being regarded as a center of excellence and draw high quality applicants.

  • Conducts annual performance evaluations for direct reports.

  • Builds dynamic relationships with administration, medical directors, physicians, device technicians, nursing and nursing leadership for the creation of inter-collaborative advance practice provider role to establish an exemplary model of care to increase patient satisfaction, professional development and research activities

  • Generates and maintains statistical information relating to the Advanced Practice Providers within the Cardiovascular Institute.

  • Maintains established hospital/department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.

  • Provide support to ancillary staff including but not limited to nurses, technicians, and medical assistants.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Must be a graduate of either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant Program.

If a Nurse Practitioner, must have a Master's Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Nurse Practitioner certification or certification eligible by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Licensed in the State of Rhode Island as a Nurse Practitioner; license must include prescriptive privileges.

If a Physician Assistant, must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Program with a M.S. degree. Passing grade on certifying examination administered by the NCCPA. Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants

Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required.

Functions with demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of the aging processes, human development stage and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

2-5 years' experience of cardiovascular care preferred. Prior supervisory experience desirable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use of safety equipment and protective clothing.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

May provide evaluation and management services independently under national provider number (NPI) consistent with regulations governing non-physician provider billing and collections, hospital medical staff privileges and payer credentialing. Incumbent functions independently within broad scope of department policies and practices. Consults with superior on specific matters only where clarification, interpretation, or exception to hospital-wide policy may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct supervision for Cardiovascular Institute Advanced Practice Providers in the inpatient and outpatient setting, approximately 12-15 providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants).

Pay Range:

$152,755.20-$229,153.60
