The UCLA Police Department is a leader in providing progressive law enforcement services to a culturally diverse urban campus and its surrounding community. We do this through patrol, rapid response to calls for service, investigations, education and implementation of preventative strategies. Position Summary

Please check the UCLA Police Department website for the most up-to-date information regarding events that relate to the recruitment and hiring of Police Officers and Police Trainees including application dates, testing dates, and other related events. The department also participates in recruiting events throughout the year to provide opportunities to meet and speak with some of our officers.

PLEASE NOTE: THE POLICE TRAINEE POSITION IS A CONTINUOUS POSTING.

Hiring Process: All Police Trainee applicants are required to take the written and physical ability tests. We may administer several written and physical agility tests throughout this requisition. You will be notified by email of your testing and/or interview dates by someone in the Personnel and Training Unit prior to any scheduled testing dates.

The UCLA Police Department utilizes the California POST PELLETB examination. If you have a passing score from another agency that was taken within one year of your application date you will not be required to take the PELLETB examination. The passing score is currently a minimum score of 50, but you may contact the Personnel and Training Unit if you scored between 45 and 50.

Physical Ability Test (PAT) and Written Test (PELLETB)
Dates: July 26, 2026, September 5, 2026, October 11, 2026, and November 22, 2026

Time: PAT: 7:00 a.m. (check-in time 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.); PELLETB: 10:30 a.m. (or at the conclusion of the PAT)

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge in the following areas: First Aid / CPR, campus streets, buildings, and parking lots, general law enforcement procedures, vehicle laws, use of firearms. (Preferred)
  • Observes situations analytically, impartially, and objectively, and to record pertinent information accurately and completely. (Required)
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with a diverse community. (Required)
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License (Required)
  • Must complete an accredited CA Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified police academy and obtain certification as a police officer. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • High School Diploma or equivalent certification (Required)
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)

  • Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
  • Reading Comprehension Test: A reading assessment will be conducted.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
  • Clery Act: The position is a designated CSA (Campus Security Authority) under Clery Act requirements.
