The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under the leadership of Christopher Fowler, the incumbent in this position will conduct research in the field of MAVEN data analysis. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefits-eligible position.

Analysis and interpretation of MAVEN plasma observations to understand how the Mars-solar wind interaction drives structure and variability in the upper ionosphere of Mars. Write results into manuscripts that will be submitted to peer review publications; attend and present results at scientific conferences.

Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Space Physics or related field
  • In addition, the successful applicant must have:
  • At least four (4) years at graduate level gained through obtaining a Ph.D. in Space Plasma Physics or a related field
    • In the analysis and interpretation of MAVEN particle and field data.
    • Writing and submitting a manuscript for peer review publication.
  • Knowledge of and ability to analyze and interpret MAVEN particle and field observations.
  • Ability to write own computer code for this analysis and production of relevant figures.
  • Ability to write results into manuscripts for submission to peer review scientific journals.

The successful candidate may be permitted to begin employment prior to degree confirmation with a letter certifying the trainee has completed all degree requirements from their university.
