Job Description
The Director of Compliance Monitoring serves as a compliance leader responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing Nidec's enterprisewide compliance monitoring and testing program across global operations. Reporting to the Senior Compliance Counsel, Global Compliance Strategy Leader, this role provides independent oversight to assess the effectiveness of the Company's ethics and compliance program and support the identification and mitigation of compliance risks. This position supports the Senior Compliance Counsel, Global Compliance Strategy Leader and Chief Compliance Officer by evaluating monitoring outcomes, identifying trends and systemic issues, and ensuring appropriate escalation and remediation of material findings. The Director of Compliance Monitoring works closely with crossfunctional partners and global business leaders to promote consistent application of compliance expectations while enabling Nidec's business objectives and ethical culture. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and enhance the global compliance monitoring and testing program in alignment with applicable laws, regulatory expectations, and recognized international standards, including U.S. Department of Justice guidance and ISO 37301.
- Develop and maintain monitoring methodologies, metrics, testing protocols, and assessment frameworks to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of compliance controls.
- Oversee continuous monitoring activities and periodic compliance testing cycles across regions, functions, and key risk areas.
- Analyze monitoring results to identify trends, control gaps, and systemic issues; assess root causes and potential enterprise impact.
- Escalate material findings and emerging risks to the Chief Legal Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, and senior leadership in accordance with established governance and escalation processes.
- Partner with Global Compliance Leadership Team, Legal, Internal Audit, Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and Business Units to coordinate oversight activities and ensure effective use of compliance and assurance resources.
- Lead the development, tracking, and validation of remediation plans and corrective actions following monitoring activities, including followup testing to confirm effectiveness.
- Oversee compliance monitoring activities related to third parties and supply chain partners, including review of supplier audit results where applicable.
- Develop with the Compliance Leadership Team and General Affairs Department and maintain a riskbased compliance monitoring plan, updated annually through the compliance risk assessment process.
- Provide leadership and guidance to compliance monitoring personnel and support the continued development and scalability of the monitoring function.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in compliance, ethics, internal audit, risk management, or a related field.
- Experience working in a global, matrixed organization.
- Strong knowledge of ethics and compliance risk areas, including the RBA Code of Conduct, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), UK Bribery Act, UFLPA, conflict minerals, and export controls.
- Familiarity with the Japanese regulatory environment, including UCPA and METI guidelines, preferred given AsiaPacific operational considerations.
- Experience using Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) platforms (e.g., NAVEX, SAP GRC, Workiva) and applying data analytics to assess compliance program effectiveness.
- Experience with supplier audit and sustainability platforms (e.g., Sedex, EcoVadis) preferred.
- JD, CCEP, CFE, or CPA designation preferred; RBA auditor certification a plus.
- Strong analytical, judgment, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leadership and crossfunctional stakeholders.
- Available for domestic and international travel, as required.
