Job Summary Maricopa Community Colleges has an opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented General Accounting Manager in the Controller's Office at the District Office. This role plans, directs, and oversees all aspects of general accounting and fiscal services, ensuring alignment with district policies and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position plays a key role in maintaining strong financial operations by leading complex accounting functions, supporting internal controls, and contributing to budgeting and financial management across the district. The General Accounting Manager will also supervise a team of four and oversee District Office fiscal operations, including cashiering and district-wide third-party billing. This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing team, influence key financial decisions, and contribute to the continued growth and success of the district while supporting a community college system dedicated to student success. Essential Functions 40% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work related to the General Accounting department, including District Office fiscal and cashier and district-wide third party billing/payments
20% - Maintain the fiscal integrity and accuracy of the Financial Management System (FMS) general ledger, and centralized allocation entries
20% - Investigate, research, and answer concerns or questions from the colleges, other district office divisions, or third-party billing customers 10% - Review and post complex journal entries, including interfaces (payroll (HCM), student information systems (SIS), and budget systems)
10% - Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, auditing, economics, business or public administration, or directly related field and seven (7) years of experience that includes a combination of experience with the application of GAAP theory and practice, uniform administrative requirements, cost principles, and audit requirements for federal awards, tax laws as they apply to accounting transactions and reporting, and/or exposure to governmental fund accounting and use of computerized accounting systems, and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in finance, accounting, business or public administration, economics or directly related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in public finance, accounting, banking, financial analysis or closely related experience that includes planning, directing and administering comprehensive programs and fiscal services which includes two (2) years of management and supervisory experience. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
