SUMMARY
The Senior Sourcing Specialist is responsible for leading sourcing activities and contributing to advanced sourcing initiatives across assigned suppliers, commodities, and client programs. This role emphasizes increased strategic ownership, supplier optimization, and cross-functional influence while maintaining oversight of key sourcing execution activities. This role may also interface directly with customers to support sourcing initiatives, project execution, and issue resolution.
This position plays a critical role in advancing the organization's sourcing capabilities by driving cost savings, improving supplier performance, and mitigating risk through data-driven decision-making and market insight. It also contributes to the evolution of sourcing strategies toward a more structured, category-oriented approach and supports the development of future category management capabilities.
Additionally, the Senior Sourcing Specialist provides mentorship and guidance to junior team members and supports the execution of complex sourcing initiatives that impact operational and financial performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Sourcing & Category Development
* Leads development and execution of sourcing strategies for assigned commodities, suppliers, and client programs.
* Contributes to the development and evolution of category strategies for defined spend areas, with increasing ownership as category management capabilities mature.
* Identifies and drives opportunities for cost reduction, supplier consolidation, and value engineering initiatives.
* Analyzes market trends, supplier capabilities, and cost drivers to inform sourcing decisions and longer-term strategy development.
* Supports the design and implementation of category management frameworks, including supplier segmentation, spend analysis, and strategic sourcing roadmaps.
* Partners with leadership to align sourcing and emerging category strategies with business objectives and customer requirements.
Sourcing Execution & Supplier Management
* Leads complex RFQ/RFP processes, including bid analysis, negotiation approach, and supplier selection.
* Oversees supplier onboarding, qualification, and performance management activities in alignment with company processes and SLAs.
* Establishes and maintains strong supplier relationships to ensure alignment with cost, quality, and service expectations.
* Leads and supports supplier performance reviews, including participation in Supplier Scorecard and Supplier Risk Programs.
* Resolves escalated supplier issues and implements mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of supply.
Strategic Support & Continuous Improvement
* Identifies and leads initiatives to improve sourcing processes, reduce cycle times, and enhance operational efficiency.
* Drives implementation of best practices, process standardization, and automation opportunities within sourcing workflows.
* Supports sourcing transformation efforts, including the transition toward more strategic and category-driven sourcing practices.
* Leads or supports supplier transitions, new program launches, and sourcing-related change initiatives.
Data, Reporting & Risk Management
* Conducts spend analysis, cost modeling, and sourcing analytics to identify opportunities and support decision-making.
* Develops, tracks, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost savings, supplier performance, and sourcing effectiveness.
* Ensures accuracy and integrity of supplier and part data within ERP systems.
* Identifies sourcing risks and develops mitigation strategies related to supply continuity, supplier performance, and compliance.
* Prepares reports and presentations summarizing sourcing initiatives, savings, and performance outcomes for leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Partners with Operations, Finance, Inventory Planning, IT, and Customer Service to align sourcing activities with business and customer needs.
* Acts as a key liaison between sourcing and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities, timelines, and execution.
* Supports new business opportunities by providing sourcing expertise, supplier insights, and cost analysis.
Customer Engagement & Project Support
* Interfaces directly with customers to support sourcing initiatives and projects, representing the sourcing function in discussions related to supply, cost, and supplier performance.
* Leads or supports customer-facing project alignment and issue resolution, ensuring clear communication, timely escalation, and coordination of required actions across stakeholders.
Leadership & Mentorship
* Provides guidance, training, and support to Sourcing Specialists and junior team members.
* Reviews work and provides feedback to ensure quality, accuracy, and alignment with sourcing objectives.
* Serves as a subject matter resource for sourcing processes, tools, and best practices.
* May lead small project teams or cross-functional initiatives within the sourcing function.

* Provides functional leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
* Five (5) or more years of progressive experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain roles.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
* Advanced knowledge of sourcing processes, including RFQ/RFP execution, supplier evaluation, and negotiation.
* Strong analytical skills with experience in spend analysis, cost modeling, and market assessment.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to or develop sourcing and category strategies.
* Strong negotiation and supplier management capabilities.
* Ability to operate effectively in both tactical execution and evolving strategic environments.
* Effective communication and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage ambiguity and evolving processes.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment.
* Proven ability to drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Computer Skills
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
* Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and Procure-to-Pay platforms (Coupa, NetSuite).
Language Skills
English (verbal, reading, writing)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, CIPS, or APICS.
* Experience supporting or participating in category management or strategic sourcing programs.
* Experience in manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain environments.
