What to Expect
We are looking for highly motivated, hands-on Electrical or Mechatronics Engineers to join the Optimus Electronics team. You will need a broad electrical engineering background with strong hands-on experience testing power conversion circuits (DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC), sensing systems, and communication protocols. As part of a multi-disciplinary hardware team, you will help develop the highest-performance and highest power-density PCBAs in robotics. Team is responsible for end-to-end development cycle that spans requirement discovery, design (simulation, schematic, layout), validation, robot deployment, and volume manufacturing. You will own bring-up and validation activities, bringing rigorous, structured, and methodical test practices to the team. This role requires close collaboration with hardware design, integration, manufacturing test, and reliability teams.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with design, reliability, and manufacturing test engineers to create bring-up, validation, qualification, and functional test plans
- Develop, build, and automate (Python, Go, MATLAB, etc.) test methods; continuously improve test coverage, reporting, and data visualization
- Perform component, schematic, board, and full system-level bring-up and validation testing; participate in design reviews; manage validation activities across multiple PCBAs in parallel
- Partner with reliability teams to execute component qualification and system-level validation testing
- Work with manufacturing test teams to develop and optimize flash and functional test processes, driving continuous improvement
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis efforts to enable rapid product iteration
- Debug complex issues across schematics, PCBAs, firmware, actuators, and robot systems using lab instrumentation (DMMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, network analyzers, power analyzers, etc.) and common network protocols (CAN, SPI, IC, Ethernet, etc.)
- Participate in robot-level bring-up, integration, and troubleshooting activities
- Review and analyze schematics, PCB layouts (Altium), and mechanical assemblies (CATIA/3DX); work closely with design engineers to validate and refine designs
- Develop Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing methodologies
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or demonstrated exceptional ability and equivalent experience
- Extensive hands-on experience testing and validating electronics; proven ability to create and execute design validation plans and test methods
- 1+ years of experience in an electronics test engineering role (or equivalent project experience)
- Strong working knowledge of analog, digital, and power electronics (DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC converters)
- Strong working knowledge of microcontrollers, analog-to-digital conversion, and communication protocols (CAN, SPI, IC, Ethernet)
- Working knowledge of sensors used in motor control systems (current, voltage, position)
- Good understanding of motor control principles (current, torque, speed, and position loops)
- Experience with EMI/EMC testing concepts and methods
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to distill technical information for the appropriate audience
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%
