Parker Meggitt (Securaplane) a recent addition to Parker Hannifin, is a global leader in the Commercial and Military Aerospace markets, specializing in a wide range of products including fire and smoke detection systems, extinguishing systems, bleed air overheat detection systems, actuators, rudder pedal assemblies, pumps, fuel gauging systems, and high-temperature cables. Located in Oro Valley, AZ, this site is within the Fire Safety & Power Systems Division (FSPSD) and is a key supplier of camera systems, energy storage products, and security systems in aerospace markets. We work directly with some of the largest aerospace companies in the world, including Airbus, Boeing, Gulfstream, Bombardier, Embraer, and Textron, among others

Test Engineer Intern

Position Summary

Researches, analyzes, designs, and tests component parts, processes, or systems to develop new and/or improve core products. Develops and recommends solutions for technical project assignments using fundamental principles of mechanical, electrical, packaging, or other engineering disciplines. Supports Engineering staff in these activities to develop skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates in a team environment, supports assigned portions of design by analyzing specifications and performance requirements. Performs routine design activities and supports development of assigned products by applying basic engineering principles and established analytical tools.

  • Investigates product development factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-defining recommendations, and change proposals.

  • Supports analysis and/or tests to evaluate product designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required technical documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals as required.

  • Provides technical information for review with product engineering and design review teams. Consistently applies engineering practices, standards, and documentation methods. Contributes to supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports. Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Supports the development of test equipment, test procedures, and automation of test processes through use of CAD tools, ECAD tools, LabView, and general engineering methods and tools.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance is required for summer months. Flexible support during school year as degree is pursued.

Physical Requirements

  • Approximately 80% sitting and 20% standing/walking about in-door Company facilities.

  • Lift and Carry up to 40 lbs.

  • Use head and neck in static position, looking up/down and side-to-side.

  • Perform light lifting from floor, table and shelf.

  • Push and pull carts or mobile tables, loaded and unloaded.

  • Minimal: heavy lifting from floor or higher, bending, twisting, climbing, lifting arms above shoulders, kneeling.

  • Minimal: exposure to excessive noise, hazardous chemicals, hazardous equipment, uneven walking surfaces

  • Typing with computer and keyboard

Qualifications

  • May have limited prior industry experience or have worked in student internship programs, labs, or other non-technical work experience.

  • Fundamental knowledge of engineering domain principles, concepts, and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate status of technical tasks and actions taken with clarity and precision.

  • Ability to work with general direction and instruction regarding the scope of assignments; and applies judgment in selecting procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and reports. Ability to present findings and information in both formal meetings and informally within and across Parker teams.

Education & Experience

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree (BS) in an engineering relevant discipline
  • Currently enrolled in Junior level Engineering classes (300 level) or higher level with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Work Schedule

Work between 12 and 30 hours per week depending on school schedule and school commitments.

This is a year-round internship position with the potential to last through graduation. Work hours are flexible and determined based on school schedule. Up to 20 hours per week during the school year with potential for more hours during breaks and in the summer. Candidates must be local to the Tucson/Oro Valley areas.
