The Lead Logistics Technician is responsible for coordinating and leading daily logistics operations, including packaging and grinding activities, to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality plant performance. This role serves as the on-shift leader, providing direction, technical expertise, and cross-functional coordination while maintaining compliance with all safety, quality, and operational standards. This position is located in Midland, MI Compensation: The current hourly rate for this role is $28.96 per hour. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location. What You'll Do: Leadership & Team Oversight
- Serve as the on-shift leader, providing guidance, coaching, and technical support to Logistics Technicians.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all EH&S standards, including cGMP and site policies.
- Foster teamwork, support conflict resolution, and drive overall team effectiveness.
- Assist in training and development of team members and identify ongoing training needs.
Operational Coordination
- Assess daily workload and allocate resources to meet production and logistics demands.
- Plan, prioritize, and execute logistics activities, including packaging and grinding operations.
- Ensure proper staffing coverage for breaks, vacancies, and overtime needs.
- Act as the primary point of contact between Logistics and cross-functional teams (Operations, Maintenance, Technical Staff, and Warehouse).
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Monitor and enforce safe work practices and regulatory compliance (cGMP, ISO, and internal standards).
- Conduct safety observations, hazard assessments, and participate in safety meetings.
- Lead response and reporting for safety and quality near-miss events.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of all documentation, including check sheets and electronic logbooks.
Shift Management & Communication
- Review plant status, logbooks, and master task lists at the start of each shift.
- Provide clear, detailed shift handoffs, including current issues, priorities, and ongoing work.
- Communicate deviations from standard operations and ensure alignment across shifts.
- Deliver regular updates on packaging and grinding performance in daily meetings.
Equipment & Process Ownership
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor maintenance on packaging and grinding equipment, including PLC-based systems.
- Monitor equipment readiness, coordinate maintenance activities, and submit work requests as needed.
- Utilize systems such as Aspen/IP21 for process monitoring and troubleshooting.
Inventory & Logistics Execution
- Oversee material flow, including pulp inventory, finished goods, and warehouse coordination.
- Manage trailer movements, shipping activities, and inventory transactions using system tools (e.g., Yardview, ADB).
- Ensure timely ordering of supplies and coordination with warehouse operations.
Continuous Improvement & Metrics
- Track and analyze key performance metrics using tools such as PowerBI, including:
- Safety and Quality Near Misses
- Production throughput (handled vs. packaged volume)
- Equipment downtime (packaging and grinding)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain 5S standards.
- Participate in procedure development, review, and updates to enhance operational efficiency.
Technical & Functional Support
- Provide hands-on support in packaging and grinding roles as needed.
- Assist with non-routine operations, maintenance activities, and plant troubleshooting.
- Serve as shift focal point for energy isolation and safety systems (LOTO, IOE/LEO via RTMS).
What We're Looking For:
- Demonstrated ability to pass technical certification covering logistics equipment, processes, and operating principles.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing systems, safety standards, and operational procedures.
- Ability to operate industrial equipment (e.g., forklifts, material handling equipment) safely and effectively
