| Purpose of Position |
Northern Kentucky University seeks a talented, versatile attorney to join its Office of Legal Affairs as an Assistant General Counsel.
Attorneys in the Office of Legal Affairs partner with campus colleagues and provide thoughtful advice, work product and leadership in all areas of a higher education legal practice. This work touches every part of the institution, from athletics, contracts and construction to employment, student affairs, litigation, real estate and research matters. The office also leads efforts in federal and state regulatory compliance, advises employees regarding ethics matters and responds to a high volume of open records requests.

| Primary Responsibilities |
The Assistant General Counsel will practice across the full range of higher education legal issues, focusing initially on student-related legal matters with additional primary responsibility for significant regulatory compliance projects, routine contracts, Board of Claims litigation and open records requests.
The Assistant General Counsel will report to the General Counsel and join an Associate General Counsel and an administrative assistant within the Office of Legal Affairs. The position will require in-person work on campus five days per week, with occasional remote work permitted.
Success in the position will require the attorney to embrace and master new areas of law and professional challenges. The individual also must exercise good judgment in managing this workload and in navigating the varied relationships, stakeholders and interests that enliven a college campus. |
| Qualifications |
The successful candidate will share this attitude and possess strong and developing legal skills including:

- Meticulous, detail-oriented approach to legal research;

- Professional and ethical handling of confidential, sensitive matters and difficult conversations with colleagues and outside parties.
Candidates should have at least two years of quality legal experience. All relevant practice areas will be considered, including litigation, transactions and employment. Experience in higher education law and with university clients is useful but not required.
Candidates must have a J.D. from an
ABA-accredited law school and either possess a license to practice law in Kentucky or obtain such license during the first year of employment.
