Trade Compliance Specialist, Lead

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will apply deep expertise in export classifications and regulatory frameworks, including EAR and ITAR, to guide the full lifecycle of export and import compliance from product design through delivery. You will lead the intake and evaluation of product reviews for trade compliance inquiries, provide clear and actionable guidance on product classifications, and support license determinations that ensure alignment with complex regulatory requirements. Acting as a key owner of enterprise-wide trade compliance processes, you will build, refine, and maintain robust protocols that help safeguard the organization's obligations in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

You will partner closely with business units and program teams to operationalize trade control requirements and embed them into daily activities, ensuring regulatory considerations are built into workflows from the outset. Success in this role hinges on your ability to serve as a collaborative, relationshiporiented advisor who strengthens internal controls, drives awareness, and empowers teams to uphold compliance responsibilities with confidence. By translating complex export regulations into practical, digestible guidance, you will enable internal clients to understand and own their obligations while reinforcing a strong, consistent compliance culture across the enterprise. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

What You'll Do

  • Assist senior staff in developing exportability guidance to meet business needs as assigned
  • Ensure program managers and internal clients receive necessary execution guidance and understand their export control responsibilities
  • Classify products, software, and solutions for export purposes, with specialized expertise in encryption-controlled items under EAR and ITAR
  • Maintain export license files and records in the compliance database to accurately reflect current status
  • Review and research export compliance issues raised by the business or senior management, and provide background analysis and recommendations for further action
  • Provide analytical support for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the international trade compliance program, policies, and procedures.
  • Help with special projects and other departmental responsibilities, as assigned

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in export controls, with focus in classifying products, software, or services for export
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and influencing adoption of compliance controls across various organizational roles
  • Experience using Microsoft products, including Excel and SharePoint
  • Ability to analyze, research, and assess international trade regulations
  • Ability to establish, manage, and continuously improve trade compliance processes and protocols within an enterprise environment
  • Ability to be diplomatic, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and show initiative
  • Ability to work independently while also engaging effectively across teams; flexible in prioritizing and managing competing tasks
  • Bachelor's degree

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with DECCS, SNAP-R, OCR, and ACE
  • Experience classifying encryption items and solutions under EAR Part 740 such as ENC or License Exception, and ITAR, including BIS encryption review and reporting requirements
  • Experience drafting export license applications and requests for use of license exemptions and exceptions in the context of government or technology sectors
  • Experience successfully embedding trade compliance protocols across enterprise operations through stakeholder engagement, training, and process design
  • Experience conducting internal investigations, ethics training, or working in a regulatory or government environment
  • Ability to display a collaborative, relationship-oriented approach to compliance work
  • Possession of strong interpersonal skills

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
