Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern
AHEC) is a private, nonprofit educational organization affiliated with East Carolina University (
ECU). The mission of Eastern
AHEC, in accordance with the Statewide
AHEC Program, is to provide and support educational activities and services with a focus on primary care in rural communities and those with less access to resources to recruit, train, and retain the workforce needed to create a healthy North Carolina. Eastern
AHEC functions in close collaboration with East Carolina University, and with the other NC University programs in Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, Medicine, and Pharmacy, as well as other institutions of higher education. Eastern
AHEC serves 23 counties in the eastern part of the state and is one of nine centers located in North Carolina.
Governance is by a Board of Directors with representation from regional health care institutions, the community at large, and the community college system. Mental Health Education provides services to the five Area L counties as well as the 23 counties in our region. The administrative structure of Eastern
AHEC consists of an Executive Director, a Chief Administrative Officer, a Director of Fiscal Services, a Director of Information & Technology Services (
ITS), a Director of Communication, a Director of Educational Support Services, and six Division Directors which includes; Quality Support Center, Public Health /
ORPCE / and Student Services, Mental Health Education, Nursing and Allied Health Education (the approved provider unit), Continuing Medical Education / Dental / Pharmacy CE Education, Pharmacy Education and Library Services. |
| Job Duties |
The primary purpose of the Operations Coordinator is to oversee scheduling and management of The Education Center, provide department-level HR and timekeeping support, as well as administrative support duties for Fiscal Affairs and Administration.
The Education Center:
- Oversees day-to-day operations of The Education Center, including reservations, client relations, scheduling, contracts, billing, and after-hours event support.
- Coordinates student staffing and supports operational needs related to event logistics, audiovisual requirements, and facility usage.
- Manages center resources by monitoring inventory, capacity tracking, equipment and supply needs, and vendor coordination for facility maintenance.
- Provides input on pricing, purchasing, and operational planning to support efficient and effective center operations.
Human Resources:
- Supports the POSO Coordinator by coordinating personnel actions, position-related processes, salary matters, and employee status changes in accordance with university guidelines.
- Assists with recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee relations matters, and serves as a resource on personnel policies and procedures.
- Oversees timekeeping administration through payroll review, approval, and training for staff and supervisors on proper timekeeping practices.
Fiscal Affairs:
- Supports fiscal operations through records management, participant registration review, and routine financial processing activities.
- Assists with accounts receivable, receipts, purchasing-related transactions, and other fiscal functions in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs related fiscal support duties to assist with departmental operations as needed.
Administrative Support to Administration:
- Coordinates administrative support for executive leadership, including meetings, scheduling, travel, reimbursements, and related support functions.
- Manages logistics for board, staff, and leadership meetings, including meeting support, virtual coordination, and documentation.
- Oversees coordination and maintenance of organizational policies and procedures, including development, review, updates, and internal posting.
General Facility Management:
- Supports facility and property management by coordinating maintenance needs, vendor services, building access, and environmental services.
- Assists with planning and coordination related to equipment, facility improvements, and operational support needs.

- Excellent record-keeping skills, time management, and organizational skills
- Supervisory skills and experience
