Position Summary

Organization: New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

Location: 1801 Mountain Rd NW Albuquerque, NM 87104

An Off-Campus Work-Study position

The Education Outreach Assistant will
support the delivery of dynamic science education programs that inspire
curiosity and foster a love for the natural world to the public during outreach
events. This role works closely with the outreach coordinator and engages
diverse audiences across New Mexico. This position works a maximum of 15 hours
per week (30 hours per two-week pay period).

Key Responsibilities:
*Assist in delivering hands-on educational programs/activities at offsite venues such as libraries, schools, community festivals, and other public spaces.
*Interact with participants of all ages, backgrounds, and communities in a friendly, respectful, and enthusiastic manner.
*Facilitate engaging learning experiences related to natural history and science topics.
*Handle delicate fossils, bones and live animals with care and in compliance with museum handling protocols for preservation and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

*Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Education, Science Education, Anthropology, Biology, Geology or Space and Science.
*Strong communication, interpersonal skills and passion for education and connecting people with science and nature.
*Comfort working with live animals including snakes and various insects.
*Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
*Ability to travel around the New Mexico area.
*Flexible availability on weekdays and/or weekends.
