HOK is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Kansas City studio. This position will be responsible for leading complex Sports + Recreation + Entertainment projects-from stadiums and arenas to training facilities and mixed-use entertainment districts. In this role, you will partner with the Project Leadership Team to drive project delivery, financial performance, and team coordination, ensuring each project is executed with design excellence, technical quality, and a high level of client service.



RESPONSIBILITIES:


Leadership:



  • Lead multidisciplinary teams delivering large-scale S+R+E projects
  • Collaborate with the Project Leadership Team to align design, technical execution, and client goals
  • Partner with senior leadership on project scope, fees, contracts, and delivery strategies
  • Contribute to and lead client presentations, stakeholder meetings, and design workshops
  • Ensure clear, proactive communication across owners, operators, consultants, and internal teams
  • Manage project performance using Deltek, including budgets, schedules, staffing, and change management
  • Champion HOK's Quality Management Program and design excellence standards
  • Integrate sustainable, resilient, and high-performance design strategies into venue projects


Project Management

  • Plan and manage multiple complex projects from concept through post-occupancy
  • Coordinate closely with Project Architects to mitigate scheduling conflicts due to changes in various projects.
  • Lead regular team meetings, track deliverables, and maintain accountability across disciplines
  • Coordinate with specialty consultants (e.g., structural, MEP, acoustics, lighting, AV, food service, security)
  • Oversee construction administration, ensuring design intent and quality are maintained in the field
  • Navigate fast-paced schedules and high-visibility project milestones


Client & Stakeholder Engagement




  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, including team owners, developers, and operators
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders such as municipalities, user groups, and community partners
  • Guide clients through programming, planning, and design decisions-including fan experience, premium spaces, back-of-house operations, and revenue-generating amenities
  • Provide leadership in resolving complex project challenges and competing stakeholder priorities


Business Development

  • Support growth of the Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice in Kansas City and across the region
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities in sports, recreation, and entertainment markets
  • Participate in high-profile pursuits, interviews, and proposal development
  • Assist in crafting compelling fee proposals and project narratives


Staff Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and develop team members within the Sports + Recreation + Entertainment practice
  • Help define project staffing strategies and resource allocation
  • Provide input on performance, career development, and team growth
  • Participate in recruiting and building a strong, diverse team


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required; Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience, including leadership of complex, large-scale projects.
  • Experience with sports, recreation, entertainment, or large public assembly venues strongly preferred
  • Licensed Architect preferred (or actively pursuing licensure)
  • NCARB certification preferred
  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred
  • Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling, and delivery methods
  • Experience coordinating large, multidisciplinary teams and specialty consultants
  • Excellent communication and client management skills, especially with high-profile stakeholders
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
