Employees of UNCA are provided with a comprehensive benefits package as well as other resources, policies and programs to ensure a happy and healthy work/life balance. Benefit eligible employees have access to dental, vision and health insurance plans - eligibility begins on the first of the month following date of hire. Retirement plan contributions begin on the eligibility date following election and include employer contributions for either a defined contribution or a defined benefit plan. Optional disability plans are also available. Eligible employees have access to tuition waivers for up to three courses per academic year; employees may enroll at any of the constituent UNC System campuses. Also offered are group exercise classes, and free access to the campus recreation center for full time employees, vaccine shots are also offered on campus, pretax flexible spending accounts, 12 paid holidays and 24 hours of paid community service leave each year. Position Summary
The Human Resources Information Systems Manager ( HRIS) serves as the University's subject matter expert for all HR systems and technologies. This role partners closely with IT and University stakeholders to implement, support, and optimize the ERP system and related HR applications, ensuring effective system architecture, reliable integrations, and advanced technical troubleshooting across platforms.
This position oversees the HRIS operations and staff involved in the selection, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and administration of HR technology solutions. As a key member of the Office of Human Resources, the HRIS Manager reports directly to the CHRO and functions as the primary technical point of contact for HR systems. Responsibilities include daily system support, configuration, maintenance, advanced issue resolution, and collaboration with multiple functional areas to support institutional people strategies.
The HRIS Manager leads technical projects and enhancements, ensuring that reporting, analytics, and data integrity solutions meet the operational and strategic needs of UNC Asheville. Through deep knowledge of HR systems, processes, and trends, the position applies sound judgment and discretion to develop and implement solutions that improve productivity, efficiency, and HR service delivery. Success in this role requires a comprehensive understanding of HR functional areas, including benefits, employment, classification, and talent management, along with the ability to align system capabilities with policy requirements and organizational goals.

Required Education/Experience/Skills
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Human Resources, Business Systems or related field. Three years of progressively responsible experience supporting information systems, HRIS platforms, or related technical functions. Demonstrated technical proficiency with enterprise systems and data management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across functional areas. Experience with HRIS administration and foundational knowledge of HR processes and data structures.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills

  • Master's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Human Resources or a related field.
  • 5-7 years experience in system administration or enterprise application management, preferably in HR information systems.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing, configuring, or supporting ERP systems, such as Banner HR.
  • Experience with additional HR technologies (e.g., recruiting systems, learning management systems, and performance management systems)
  • Advanced data analysis and reporting capabilities, including experience with SQL, report writing, data extraction, data validation, and troubleshooting system/interface logic.
  • Proficiency with technologies commonly used in enterprise environments, such as TOAD for Oracle, Single Sign-On (SSO), document management systems, electronic forms, workflow tools, and Google Workspace Administration, with an understanding of how tools integrate with HR applications.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving technical integration issues across enterprise systems, vendor interfaces, and automated data feeds.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or support system initiatives, process improvements, and policy workflow enhancements.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities, with a track record of successfully meeting deadlines in a challenging environment.
  • Commitment to ethical stewardship of confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to support end users with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace tools.

  • Ability to anticipate HR and organizational HRIS needs, translate business requirements into effective system configurations, and recommend solutions that enhance HR processes and efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills, using a diagnostic approach to identify root causes and resolve complex system issues.
  • Solid understanding of software development and support methodologies, including working knowledge of relational databases and complex data structures.
  • Ability to develop, document, and maintain test plans, test scripts, and validation processes for system implementations, upgrades, and patches.
  • Proven ability to explain technically complex concepts in a clear, accessible manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and problem?solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to provide leadership and collaboration within a team-oriented environment, fostering positive working relationships across departments.
  • Strong functional knowledge of HR operations, including HR, benefits, payroll, and recruiting workflows.
