The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 45 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 31 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking a motivated individual to assume an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist role. This individual provides advanced, patientcentered pharmacotherapy services in a fastpaced, highacuity environment. This role functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary ED team, optimizing medication therapy for patients across the continuum of emergency care.

Key responsibilities include:



  • Delivering direct patient care, including medication selection, dosing, monitoring, and rapid response support for trauma activations, cardiac arrests, stroke alerts, and other emergent situations.
  • Leading practice advancement initiatives, such as protocol development, qualityimprovement projects, and implementation of evidencebased medicationuse processes that enhance safety, efficiency, and clinical outcomes.
  • Serving as a preceptor and educator for pharmacy residents, students, and ED staff, providing realtime teaching, feedback, and skill development in emergency medicine pharmacotherapy.
  • Collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other team members to ensure safe transitions of care, antimicrobial stewardship, and adherence to institutional and regulatory standards.


This specialist role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to perform under pressure, and a commitment to advancing emergency medicine pharmacy practice.

Preferred qualifications for this position include the completion of a PharmD degree, PGY-1 residency or equivalent experience, and PGY-2 specialty residency or equivalent experience in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care. Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification is required within two years of start date.

Salary Range: Minimum $59.29/hour - Maximum $97.91/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
