WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Used Equipment Inspector is responsible for evaluating the condition of used Caterpillar equipment by performing visual and functionality inspections to support the growth of used equipment sales. This position involves conducting detailed inspections to assess the condition and functionality of heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers and other machinery. The inspector ensures accurate reporting to support informed business decisions, minimize risks, and maximize profitability. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, attention to detail, and fieldwork, with frequent travel to job sites or customer locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform accurate and detailed visual and functionality inspections on construction equipment.
- Evaluate mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components for wear, damage, and functionality.
- Document inspection results with detailed notes and photographs.
- Prepare inspection reports and condition assessments for internal use and customer review.
- Provide customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards during inspections

- Equipment delivery & after-delivery follow up.
- Perform equipment operation and safety demonstrations for customers.
- Inspect fleet unit(s) prior to use to verify adequate safety and operational tolerances.
- Load and secure parts, equipment and/or accessories for delivery.
- Evaluate & troubleshoot customers and company equipment for repairs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in heavy equipment or mechanics preferred.
- Ability to travel frequently: Day travel (75% or more): Occasional overnight travel (0% - 20%)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience inspecting or servicing construction equipment.
- Strong knowledge of construction equipment systems and components.
- Ability to identify mechanical issues and assess equipment condition accurately.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to equipment sites as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting/Carrying 40 lb. Lift/Carry and 50lb+ pulling.
- Standing/Sitting Up and down stairs, standing, sitting and climbing into machines.
- Dexterity Normal.
- Repetitive Motions Frequent movement requires hands, wrists and fingers.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
- Must have the physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including protective glasses, protective gloves, and protective clothing and footwear as required by the job.
