Rutgers Law School in Newark invites applicants for a Lecturer (Visiting Assistant Professor - Non Tenure Track) position for up to two academic years (2026-2027/2027-2028) to teach legal writing. We encourage applications from entry-level candidates planning to enter the legal education market, practitioners interested in transitioning to the legal academy full-time, and recent law graduates with strong academic potential. Candidates with scholarly interests across all areas of law are encouraged to apply.
As part of a leading public university with a distinguished faculty, Rutgers offers a strong institutional foundation for emerging scholars. This program is designed to provide intensive mentoring, meaningful integration into the faculty, and support for candidates entering the law teaching market. The position is anchored in the law school's Legal Writing program, which is ranked #8 nationally.
This position provides a one-year position renewable for, and limited to, a second year. The position allows time to gain teaching skills while participating in the intellectual life of the law school, in preparation for entering the legal academy. During the period of employment, the successful candidate will teach one section of Legal Writing I each fall and two sections of Legal Writing II each spring.
The successful candidate will receive both formal and informal faculty mentoring, including guidance during the law teaching hiring process in the second fall of the appointment. In addition to teaching, the selected candidate is expected to produce at least one piece of original scholarship during the two-year period.
