Benefits Specialist Assistant

The Washington County ADRC department, located in West Bend, Wisconsin, has an excellent opportunity as a Benefits Specialist Assistant. Under the supervision of the Director, is responsible for providing technical support for the web-based state database systems, clerical support, and direct client consultation for benefit programs within the Department.

Qualified candidates must possess:
*Two years of post-high school education and one year of office experience.
*Experience working with older adults and insurance or health care programs preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
*Performs all clerical support for the Elderly Benefits Specialist and the Disability Benefits Specialist.
*Assists with maintaining the resource databases for the ADRC of Washington County.
*Files reports for the EBS and DBS on state systems as needed.
*Receives and communicates program eligibility information to clients on public benefits.
*Assists older adults with the Prescription Drug program applications from various drug companies and Wisconsin Senior Care, Medicare Part D, and other Medicare and supplemental insurance benefits.
*Screens phone calls and refers callers, as appropriate.
*Makes appointments for people requesting Benefits Specialist and other services with staff. Arranges for meetings, conferences, and other programs for the public as related to public benefits.
*May prepare a variety of reports, upon request.
*Maintains Web page for the ADRC.
*Participates in planning of Benefit Specialist related programs and provides clerical support to those programs.
*Performs miscellaneous tasks as required.
*Performs other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.

Work Direction Received: Works under the general supervision of the Director.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Decision Making: Decisions concerning prioritizing work, assisting in determining eligibility for prescription drug programs, Medicare, and supplemental insurance options, providing information as needed, setting up and maintaining files, and other daily assignments are made independently.

Interaction: There is interaction with other County departments, County employees, and direct client contact as well as the general public.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, basic computer principles, operation of county government, and departmental programs, operations, and policies. Ability to produce accurate documents, provide support for programs, communicate effectively orally and in writing, operate a variety of office equipment, and interact effectively with co-workers and other employees. Ability to relate to older adults and adults with disabilities, good listening skills, ability to comprehend government benefits and program regulations. Able to fulfill physical demands of job, sensory demands (seeing and hearing), and cognitive demands (concentration, conceptualization, memorization).
