Itron, a global technology leader in the energy and smart grid sector, is seeking a Staff Systems Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the quality, reliability, and customer value of integrated software, firmware, hardware, and systemlevel solutions delivered to utilities worldwide. As a Staff Systems Test Engineer, you will apply systematic and innovative testing approaches within solution test laboratories, partnering closely with crossfunctional teams to deliver resilient, customercentric solutions that meet high quality and performance standards. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and execute integrated solution test strategies, plans, designs, objectives, and test cases based on customer use cases, system architecture, and technical requirements
  • Validate endtoend system functionality across software, firmware, hardware, meters, tools, and supporting infrastructure to ensure reliable and scalable solutions
  • Identify, analyze, document, and communicate defects, inconsistencies, and risks in a clear, actionable, and accountable manner
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test solutions using modern testing tools, scripting languages, and best practices
  • Collaborate authentically and effectively with systems engineers, software and firmware development teams throughout the product lifecycle, including design reviews, code walkthroughs, and inspections
  • Investigate complex systemlevel issues, analyze test results, and provide datadriven recommendations to improve product quality and customer outcomes
  • Support internal stakeholders by responding to technical inquiries related to system behavior, testing, and solution operation
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of technical documentation, user guides, and online help content
  • Participate in knowledgesharing and training sessions to support Services, Support Centers, and crossfunctional teams
  • Contribute to a collaborative, agile, and innovative engineering culture focused on continuous improvement and customer success
  • Work in a hybrid role, balancing remote work with onsite collaboration at the Itron facility in Raleigh, NC
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2-6 years of applicable professional experience in system, software, firmware, or solutionlevel testing
  • Handson experience testing complex, multicomponent, and distributed system solutions
  • Strong analytical, problemsolving, and criticalthinking skills with a customercentric mindset
  • Ability to manage priorities effectively while working in a fastpaced, accountable, and agile environment
  • Experience collaborating across teams, disciplines, and time zones using clear and professional communication
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience in the energy, utilities, smart grid, or IoT industry
  • Familiarity with modern software development and delivery methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile, and Continuous Integration
  • Experience developing automated test scripts using Python, Java, or similar languages
  • Working knowledge of test and results tracking tools such as Azure DevOps (ADS/TFS), Jira, or equivalent systems
  • Exposure to AI and intelligent agents, and their efficient application within solution test processes
  • Understanding of IP networking concepts, including IPv6, and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark
  • Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux server environments
  • Experience with web services and WSDL is a plus
  • Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL, including scripting
  • Exposure to cloud technologies (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS)
  • Knowledge of cellular, WiFi, RF, or other communication network technologies
