  • Salary Range - $75,000 to $85,000

Project Manager (Biological)

DAWSON is seeking a mid-level biologist with 5-10 years of directly related experience to join our Natural Resources team. The ideal candidate will be a Project Manager on the team, and will lead and participate in a variety of federal projects throughout the country. The ideal candidate will work closely with staff and other project managers to oversee and conduct natural resource surveys in a variety of habitats, wetland delineations, habitat restoration activities, and lead the development of environmental documents. This position is an opportunity to lead project activities from start to finish including: the development of proposals and cost estimates, all project management planning and project execution tasks, conducting USFWS consultations and regulatory interpretation, conducting field and geospatial data collection, data analysis; and scientific and technical report preparation, including detailed report formatting and quality assurance. This position will eventually have business development goals with the expectation of developing relationships with federal clients and procuring work.

Responsibilities:



  • Perform and oversee natural resource surveys, vegetation mapping, invasive species mapping, nesting bird surveys, raptor surveys, permitting, wetlands and WOTUS delineations, planting and habitat restoration activities, consultations, and environmental monitoring.
  • Provide technical direction in the field to staff conducting biological and ecological surveys
  • Collect project-related data, which may include research; organize public comment database; review and respond to public comments; conduct surveys for listed species; participate in interviews government agencies and clients
  • Perform multiple assignments within scope/budget/schedule expectations and adhere to DAWSON's quality standards on project deliverables.
  • Prepare for and lead meetings with clients, contracting officers, stakeholders, internal calls with leadership, and public information meetings.
  • Prepare technical documents such as survey reports, monitoring plans, habitat and wetland delineation reports, biological assessments, desktop surveys, NEPA support, and existing conditions documents
  • Prepare Section 404 permits and coordination letters
  • Use DAWSON project management tools to effectively manage project deliverables and budgets.


Qualifications and Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Botany, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or related field is required
  • Willing to work in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, or cold) and possibly traverse steep terrain in some locations. Candidates must be willing to travel and have the ability to work in the field independently.
  • Familiarity with flora and fauna of specific areas.
  • Familiarity with bird ID and nest identification.
  • Familiarity understanding taxonomy and have good plant identification skills.
  • 5-10 years of directly related field and project management consulting experience
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
  • Strong hands-on spreadsheet and online database comprehension.
  • Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands-on trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently as well as with supervision.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations including but not limited to the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and various state and local requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Able to pass a federal and state background check for some work assignments.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring at construction sites is (a plus)
  • Working knowledge of GIS software (a plus)
  • Protocol survey permit holder from USFWS (a plus)
