Position Summary: The CNC Technical Lead must guide the machining department and team of CNC Machine Operators responsible for manufacturing a family of parts or products.

FLSA: Non-exempt

Job Duties and Responsibilities



  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assign duties.
  • Analyze work orders to estimate workers' hours and create machining schedules, setup/staffing plans that meet both internal and external needs.
  • Review planning dispatch reports and prioritize schedule to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Ensure raw material, tooling, and work orders available to meet anticipated production schedule.
  • Plan the flow of materials through the department and develop the physical layout of machines according to work orders.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet department standards.
  • Inspect and measure parts and products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Direct team members in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products that fail to meet standards.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of the product.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Programming, and Set-up teams to optimize product capability and department throughput.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the shop, department, or work crew.
  • Analyze and resolve technical problems or assist team members in resolving technical problems.
  • Maintain time and production records.
  • Lead department training when integrating new parts, equipment, or team members.
  • Contribute to department machining output as time and priorities allow.
  • Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • Performs 5s audits as required.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High School diploma or equivalent, or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year certificate from college, technical school, or equivalent and/or 5-8 years of Machine Operator III experience level.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Advanced machining skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, share information, respect and assist other team members.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in writing.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
