Job Overview

The Assistant Segment Controller serves as a key member of the Hubbell Electrical Solutions (HES) finance team. This role reports to the Segment Controller and interfaces regularly with the SBU and BU Controllers, Corporate controllership and operational finance teams. The Assistant Segment Controller will be responsible for timely and accurate closing and ensuring a strong control environment across the segment.

A Day In The Life

  • Responsible for leading timely and accurate month end close process, including preparing and/or reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations & analysis
  • Prepare and review monthly/quarterly income statement, balance sheet and cash flow flux analysis
  • Review key financial metrics on a monthly basis and resolve issues within the Company's financial reporting and consolidation system
  • Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations for multiple business units
  • Analyze and make assessments of financial statements and related metrics
  • Ensure a strong control environment by monitoring key SOX controls across the segment and leading deficiency remediation.
  • Interface with internal and external audit teams to provide support from the BU side
  • Lead the segment's annual goodwill impairment analysis by working closely with the SBUs and Corporate developing financial projects and key assumptions to support the analysis
  • Partner with the commercial team to understand and assist with calculating customer incentives as well as sales commissions (pay-outs and accruals).
  • Partner with internal shared service providers to foster strong ties with BU finance teams and to ensure the effective provision of centralized accounting services to multiple BUs
  • Effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers
  • Efficiently obtain, organize and transform data in Excel, Business Intelligence and related applications
  • Work across all levels of the organization and effectively communicate to influence change
  • Complete ad hoc financial information requests and various special projects as needed
  • Plays a key role integrating newly acquired businesses into Hubbell's control environment and financial reporting structure
  • Act as a functional area expert for the financial consolidation systems (OneStream)
  • Effectively interact with Hubbell stakeholders in person and remotely via video conference using company provided equipment
  • Travel as necessary and within reason to Hubbell & related sites within and outside of the US
  • Work outside of regular business hours during monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing cycles, plan cycles and other periods of peak internal demand

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, from a four-year college or university required, CPA/CMA and/or MSA/MBA are a plus
  • 8+ Years of progressive finance/accounting experience, preferably within a publicly traded global manufacturing company and/or public accounting firm
  • Exceptional understanding of US GAAP, transactional accounting within a manufacturing company model and with a monthly accounting close process
  • Experience operating with SOX 404 compliance required
  • Familiarity with standard cost systems a plus
  • Previous experience obtaining and transforming data to solve complex problems
  • Previous experience with acquisitions/integrations/purchase accounting is a plus
  • Ability to effectively identify, diagnose and communicate the impact of complex transactions to the company's leadership team
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • OneStream or other financial consolidation package and SAP experience desired
  • Expert working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Proven ability to work well with others in a diverse organization
  • Highly organized with an ability to work well under tight time constraints
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and execute projects effectively
  • Ability and desire to visit manufacturing facilities from time-to-time
