Department Summary

Risk Management Services' programs provide proactive support for the strategic, operational and financial foundation of the University of North Texas. A safe academic environment is the top priority of our department and staff members. We help identify, analyze and mitigate risks so that the UNT community can freely pursue opportunities for growth and advancement. Our staff members also work to identify, protect and conserve university resources from loss. To achieve our goals, we work together with the UNT community to help them proactively manage risks, implement preventative measures, plan for their challenges and work through any issues that occur.

Position Overview

This position oversees and administers the Risk Management Services budget and supports the daily operations of all program areas, including Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Management and Safety Services, Insurance and Claims, and Youth Protection. The role works closely with the Executive Director to provide timely financial and operational updates that inform departmental planning and execution. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, procurement management, personnel administration, event coordination, and serving as the primary physical and/or virtual point of contact for the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and five years of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

* Knowledge of accounting/budgeting procedures.

* Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned function.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and 4 years experience in administrative/budgeting work at an academic institution.

Job Duties



  • Oversee and administer the day-to-day operations pertaining to the department budget. Provide timely status updates for real-time decision-making and future budgeting/planning. Attend budget trainings/meetings and ensure department leadership is apprised of important information and updates.
  • Manage department procurement including making purchases through requisitions, p-card, interdepartmental transfers, and any other potential means. This also includes bill payment to vendors for services
  • Serve as the primary physical and/or virtual point of contact for the department and provide excellent customer service. This includes assisting stakeholders through the department's main phone line, email, and greeting guests as they visit our main office.
  • Provide administrative support for employee onboarding, offboarding, and any other employee status changes
  • Assist with timekeeping, ensuring managers are informed of deadlines and operational changes. Assist in ensuring the unique needs of student worker time management are met.
  • Coordinate other operational needs of the department such as event planning, meeting scheduling, expense reporting, building representative, fleet administration, inventory management, shipping/receiving, cash handling, and other needs as they arise.
