Position Overview The Crew Chief II is responsible for leading complex field survey projects and ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards established by McAdams's Geomatics department. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, independent decision-making, and strong leadership skills. The Crew Chief II oversees field operations, mentors Junior Crew Chiefs and crew members, and serves as a primary field representative for clients, demonstrating professionalism and technical excellence on every project. Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily field operations and ensure survey tasks are executed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements and McAdams's standards
- Follow company standards and guidelines for surveying and / or construction staking
- Perform and oversee a wide range of surveys, including boundary, topographic, ALTA, construction staking, and specialized geomatics work
- Independently read, interpret, and apply complex construction plans-such as grading, drainage, sewer, and roadway profiles-to ensure accurate layout and data collection
- Provide technical guidance to other Geomatics team members
- Responsible for all assigned survey equipment. Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and cared for Inform group manager when instrument calibrations are needed to ensure continual accuracy in work
- Identify, analyze, and resolve potential plan, computation, or constructability issues proactively
- Communicate respectfully with clients or project neighbors to ensure a positive company image
- Maintaining a safe work environment for all crew members, assist with executing JHA's, participate with pre and post job briefs, speak up when potential hazards or unsafe work conditions are identified
- Maintain assigned work vehicle. Ensure regular vehicle maintenance is being performed
- Plan and organize field work to optimize crew efficiency, accuracy, and resource utilization
- Supervise and mentor survey crew members and Junior Crew Chiefs, fostering technical growth, accountability, and teamwork
- Provide clear and concise direction to crews, ensuring understanding of daily objectives and safety protocols
- Ensure field data is recorded accurately, organized efficiently, and delivered in a format consistent with McAdams's standards
- Support field staff development through on-the-job training and performance feedback
- Lead by example in demonstrating professionalism, safety, and adherence to company values
- Act as the primary field representative for the company, maintaining positive and professional relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
- Communicate proactively with Project Managers and Geomatics leadership regarding project progress, challenges, and resource needs
- Address and defuse contentious situations on-site with professionalism and diplomacy
- Ensure crew compliance with all safety standards, policies, and procedures
Skills + Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- Demonstrate core competencies of the Crew Chief I position
- Knowledge of TDS Software, Trimble Robotics, GPS equipment, Carlson Software, and Leica Robotics
- Punctual and dependable
- Hardworking and detail-oriented
- Successful completion of a functional assessment
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Successfully pass a motor vehicle record check, drug test, and functional assessment
Work Environment + Physical Demands The characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. - Work will primarily be outside with varying environmental conditions.
- Work will involve long-term standing and frequent walking as well as include common hazards encountered while maneuvering through project sites.

- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to stand up or walk between 8-12 hours a day.
- Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
- Weekend and overtime and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
- Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
