ChampionX has future and immediate hiring needs for experienced I&E Technicians in Freeport, TX to support our operations team.

Accountability Objective

The I & E Technician is responsible for safe and efficient maintenance and calibration of facility process instrumentation and electrical components.

Position Qualifications

The position requires knowledge of maintenance procedures and ability to troubleshoot, repairs, and calibrate plant instrumentation. An associate's degree in a related area and 7+ years related experience is preferred. The position also requires a valid electrician's license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

What You Will Do (Principal Accountabilities)

  • Able to read and correct the following drawings:
    • Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&ID)
    • Electrical Drawings
    • Instrument Loop Drawings
    • Schematics
  • Proficient with Delta-V
  • Proficient with Micro Motion flow meters
  • Familiar with low/high voltage electrical work (120v, 208v, 220v, 277v, 240v, 480v, 2400v, and 12/4/7 incoming power)
  • Perform planned maintenance checks and calibrations in a timely manner and submit appropriate reports
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates all plant instrumentation and electrical equipment as necessary
  • Troubleshooting consists of learning operational procedures and theory to make intelligent decisions in pinpointing problems regardless of whether it pertains to equipment failure, procedure or process problems. One should be able to give appropriate suggestions or make the accurate corrections required in solving the problem
  • Repair consists of making sure inventory is kept either by setting up the appropriate equipment in the warehouse or purchasing the related equipment/part when needed. The mechanic needs to determine if the equipment is in a serviceable condition
  • Calibration consists of using the system in place to correctly calibrate that equipment, keep the appropriate records and to adjust, if necessary, the steps needed to prolong the life and usefulness of that equipment
  • Able to install, repair, and complete revisions to plant instrumentation and electrical equipment while following drawings and making "As Built" corrections or drawings as needed
  • Minimize downtime and unsafe conditions by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various types of equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • After being trained in the use of the DocuMint Database and Calibrations, will use them for scheduling, calibration, and documentation of plant instrumentation (Loveland)
  • Maintains the instrumentation and electrical spare parts inventory
  • With assistance from Engineering, develops and executes an effective preventive maintenance program for all equipment and preventive calibration program for all critical instrumentation
  • Arranges for and coordinates the efficient and economical installation of replacement and/or new equipment and systems throughout the facility. Calculates and provides estimates for maintenance and construction jobs to ensure economical and efficient work
  • Provides technical assistance to contract personnel engaged in electrical and instrumentation as requested by Reliability Team Leader
  • Participate in rotating call out schedule and respond to emergency calls as needed
  • Participate in PHA, engineering design meetings, audits, root cause analysis meetings, etc.
  • Use SAP to review and close out Work Orders (Corrective and Preventive)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Performs all work while emphasizing safety and maintaining a clean, safe, and environmentally compliant work area
  • Supports and incorporates the activities of Continuous Improvement (CI) into ongoing work duties through teamwork within and across departments. Use CI to eliminate losses and waste that hamper facility effectiveness so that safety is advanced, process and equipment are reliable, quality is stabilized/improved, and reduce operating costs
  • Identify electrical hazards, establish shock and arc flash boundaries, and follow NFPA 70E electrical safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, justification approvals for energized work, and required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Additional Responsibilities / Deliverables

Management of SIS / Critical Protection Devices

  • Support inspection, testing, and maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), interlocks, alarms, and safety shutdown devices in accordance with site procedures and applicable standards

Alarm & Control Performance Support

  • Assist Operations and Engineering in identifying poor-performing instruments, nuisance alarms, or control valves that negatively impact unit stability and uptime

MOC & Change Management Support

  • Support Management of Change (MOC) activities by reviewing instrumentation and electrical impacts, updating documentation, and verifying field installation compliance

Bad Actor & Reliability Input

  • Provide technical input to reliability reviews, bad actor identification, and root cause analysis by identifying recurring instrumentation and electrical failures

Standardization & Best Practices

  • Support standardization of instrumentation, electrical components, and calibration practices to reduce variation, spare parts complexity, and maintenance errors

Data Quality Ownership

  • Ensure calibration records, loop documentation, and SAP notifications accurately reflect actual field conditions and equipment status

Mentoring / Skill Development

  • Assist in mentoring junior technicians or contractors by reinforcing safe work practices, troubleshooting methods, and site standards
