The Manager II, Community Impact is the strategic leader responsible for shaping, governing, and advancing Hannaford's community impact strategy across all markets. This role leads long-term charitable priorities, annual giving plans, partnership frameworks, and community investment strategies that deepen social impact while strengthening brand affinity and customer loyalty.

As Hannaford's senior leader for community engagement, this role drives alignment and execution of the philanthropic strategy while supporting corporate purpose, business priorities, and brand equity. The Manager II oversees portfolio management, grantmaking cycles, charitable governance, and evaluation of partner organizations.

This position partners with Category, Marketing, Retail Operations, and hunger relief and nonprofit partners to maximize impact, operational excellence, and visibility of signature food donation programs, ensuring partnerships deliver measurable outcomes and long-term brand relevance authentic to the Hannaford brand. The role leads the Community Impact team and works with Communications and Marketing to embed community impact results and partnerships into storytelling across key channels.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads strategic development of Hannaford's long-term community impact strategy, including charitable focus areas, partner selection
  • Creates and executes the annual Community Impact plan, including budgeting, grant cycles, disciplined portfolio reviews.
  • Develops and maintains formal giving policies, evaluation rubrics, conflict of interest protocols, risk assessment frameworks, and partner accountability standards.
  • Directs all corporate charitable giving processes, including evaluation of nonprofit partners, geographic equity analysis, social return on investment (SROI) assessment, and outcome-based decision-making.
  • Conducts annual portfolio effectiveness reviews to ensure capital allocation aligns with strategy and delivers measurable community outcomes.
  • Manages strategic relationships with key nonprofit partners, coalitions, and leaders in priority focus areas such as hunger relief, and other strategic giving pillars including but not limited to nutrition, health, and youth development.
  • Partners closely with Retail Operations and Fresh Rescue teams to strengthen hunger relief programming, enhance operational excellence, and build visibility for store level impact.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to integrate community impact partnerships into brand campaigns, storytelling, co-marketing initiatives, and signature programs.
  • Partners with External Communications by providing narrative content, data, and strategic visibility for the Community Impact Report, earned media opportunities, and Hannaford's positioning as a thought leader in food access, nutrition, and community well-being.
  • Serves as a thought-leader/representative of Hannaford in community forums, public events, partner engagements, and cross sector coalitions.
  • Leads and develops Community Impact team members across divisions, establishing clear goals, performance metrics, and consistent execution aligned to strategy.
  • Oversees management of the Community Impact budget, including forecasting, tracking, reporting, and disciplined stewardship of charitable funds.
  • Implements and maintains best in class grant management systems, reporting tools, and communication channels for nonprofit partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Presents community impact strategy, results, insights, and emerging issues to senior leadership and cross functional partners to build internal understanding, alignment, and pride in Hannaford's social impact.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • 7-10 years of experience leading community impact, corporate giving, or nonprofit partnership strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proven experience developing and leading community investment strategies and longterm partnership frameworks.
  • Experience managing budgets, teams, and complex stakeholder relationships.

  • This position requires the ability to travel within our five (5) operating states (ME, MA, NH, VT, NY) with some evening engagements.

The Salary Range for this Position is $108,880 - $163,320.
