DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Within this role, you will learn how to serve as a project engineer and perform various engineering duties in the design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of flood control projects. You will also be responsible for ensuring that contractors and DEP inspectors complete duties in accordance with all established agreements in the areas of maintenance and construction. Your contributions will help to ensure that project plans, field work, and documentation meet established standards and protocols of each and every project. As a Civil Engineer Trainee, you will work under the guidance of a Civil Engineer Manager while participating in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program to learn the duties of a Civil Engineer Supervisor. Additional duties will include:
- Training Support: Learn engineering design, construction, inspection, and maintenance tasks under supervision
- Document Preparation: Assist in preparing plans, reports, estimates, and technical specifications for assigned projects
- Field Assistance: Support site reviews and gather information needed to address engineering problems
- Survey Participation: Help coordinate survey activities and review collected data for accuracy
- Contract Review: Aid in reviewing contractor submittals and determining consistency with project requirements
- Project Coordination: Work with supervisors and designers to resolve questions about contract documents and field conditions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
- Travel usually requires overnight stays of 3 to 4 nights a week depending on scheduled activities.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $66,328.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of civil engineering experience and a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field that includes or is supplemented by major coursework in civil engineering.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
- This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
