Job Summary The Veteran Service Coordinator (Student Services Manager) provides strategic leadership and oversight for all programs on two campuses and services supporting military-affiliated students, including veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, and dependents. Reporting to the Dean of Enrollment Services, this role manages daily operations, staff, budgets, compliance, and outreach initiatives to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and national best practices. The Coordinator (Manager) serves as the institution's primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), state agencies, and community partners, while ensuring full compliance with federal and state regulations governing VA educational benefits. Responsibilities include interpreting policies, maintaining program approvals, coordinating tuition assistance, and certifying student enrollments as a School Certifying Official. This position oversees the delivery of comprehensive, student-centered support services, including the administration of GI Bill benefits, supervision of VA Work Study student employees, and management of veteran centers and lounges. The Manager designs and implements targeted programming to support student success, such as veteran-specific New Student Orientation, sponsorship of the Student Veterans Organization, faculty and staff training, and events and workshops that promote engagement, retention, persistence, and completion. Additionally, the Manager collaborates across campus to address student needs, mediate concerns, and foster a welcoming, inclusive, and veteran-friendly environment that supports the academic and personal success of military-connected students. Essential Functions 30% Provide strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for all Veterans Services, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and student success priorities. Serve as the primary institutional liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), state agencies, and community partners. Ensure full compliance with federal and state regulations governing VA educational benefits, including interpretation of policies and maintenance of program approvals. Collect, analyze, and report data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement efforts. 25% Oversee daily operations of Veterans Services, including supervision, training, and evaluation of staff and VA Work Study student employees. Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, resources, and operational plans. Develop and deliver training and resources to faculty and staff to increase awareness and support of military-connected students. 20% Ensure a student-centered, inclusive, and identity-affirming environment that supports the academic and personal success of military-connected students. Sponsor and support the Student Veterans Organization and related co-curricular programming. Manage veteran centers/lounges to ensure they provide a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment. Collaborate with campus departments to coordinate services, address student needs, and resolve concerns, including mediation between students and faculty when appropriate. 15% Lead outreach, recruitment, and retention initiatives to increase access, persistence, and completion among military-affiliated students. Certify student enrollments and administer VA educational benefits as a School Certifying Official, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. 10% Continuous leadership and personal development. Attend local, state, and national conferences, webinars, and training to stay up-to-date and informed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, sociology, business administration or related field and five years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two years of supervisory experience. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications 1. Master degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, public administration, counseling, or a related field. 2. Three (3) years of supervisor/manager responsible experience in veterans services, financial aid, enrollment services, or a related student services area, including experience with VA educational benefits and compliance. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations governing VA educational benefits (e.g., GI Bill programs) and experience ensuring compliance, reporting, and program oversight. 4. Demonstrated commitment to serving military-connected students, including experience with outreach, retention initiatives, and fostering inclusive, student-centered environments. 5. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years. **** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience.
