SUMMARY

This employee performs a wide variety of duties, especially those associated with the Intake area of the Youth Center. Duties include but are not limited to ensuring the safety and security of the Intake area. This includes monitoring residents in the Intake area, checking in visitors by utilizing the metal detector, wand, and searches. This position is also responsible to compile statistical data, operating a small switchboard, updating, and distribution of a daily census. After becoming familiar with job requirements, the employee usually works with relative independence. This position reports directly to the Operations Administrator.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety and security of the Intake area.
  • Ensure all visitors are properly signed in, valid identification is collected and filed, all required paperwork is completed, and persona items are secured in lockers or held at the front desk.
  • Monitor residents while visiting with family after Court, visits with attorney's, juvenile probation officers, children, and youth workers as well as any other approved visits.
  • Assists public, attorneys, court personnel, etc. with general information and operates switchboard.
  • Processes new admissions and resident releases. Notify caseworkers/administrators of admissions and departures, institutional transfers, etc.
  • Places residents' personal items in the safe and keeps record of all items, which are to be returned upon release of resident from Youth Center.
  • Compiles daily Secure Detention and Shelter census reports indicating court hearings and caseworker/probation officer assignments, as well as other pertinent data regarding each current resident.
  • Researches and compiles daily various data on each resident, culminating in monthly and yearly statistical reports required by county and state agencies.
  • Assembles and distributes to counseling staff personal hygiene kits for Secure Detention and Shelter residents upon admission to Youth Center.
  • Supplies forms necessary at Intake counter such as parental visits, medical consents, etc. to various professionals, parents, and counseling staff.
  • Provide proper documentation and reports on incidents involving children.
  • Ability to guide and supervise juveniles and to use safe crisis management techniques effectively.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 60 college credits, preferably in social sciences.
  • Must be physically capable of handling adolescents during crisis situations using safe crisis management techniques
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Ability to compute statistical data accurately.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious and professional relationships with public and staff.
  • Must possess good moral and ethical character.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive resident information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to adjust work assignments according to demands of situational occurrences.
  • Assists and accepts clerical assignments in other work areas as necessary
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Must obtain a physical examination report from a licensed physician prior to employment.
  • Driver's license or reliable means of transportation.
  • Must obtain Pa. criminal history check, FBI clearance, child abuse clearance, and pre-employment drug screening prior to employment.
