Mechanical Technician I Job Summary:

The Mechanical Technician I position involves assembling, testing, and maintaining mechanical systems and components to meet required specifications. In this entry-level role, you will work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure the quality and reliability of flight hardware. This position requires a basic understanding of mechanical principles, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to precision and safety. You will be involved in assembling major structures, performing minor part-fitting operations for spacecraft systems, and translating blueprints into mechanical assemblies. Additionally, your tasks will include precision drilling, using calibrated tools, bonding, troubleshooting, and developing skills in precision cleaning and handling mechanical hardware.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with and learn from more experienced technicians in areas such as complex mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication.

  • Inspect, assemble, integrate, and operationally check flight hardware, as well as assemble, test, and maintain mechanical systems and components to meet specifications and standards.

  • Use precision measurement tools, ensure components meet specified tolerances while adhering to general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements.

  • Follow 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness protocols, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and work in restrictive spaces.

  • Collaboration with team members to achieve production goals will also be a key part of your responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Typically entry-level 0 - 2 years of experience.

  • Familiarity with general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements.

  • Ability to perform basic equipment setup and maintenance activities and display general mechanical aptitude and hand tools/precision tools competency.

  • Ability to learn and perform precision cleaning.

  • Ability to learn 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness.

  • Ability to conduct basic verification/troubleshooting of own work.

  • Basic understanding of mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated progress towards formal training or education.

  • Certifications: IPC & J-STD.

  • A&P License.

  • Communication skills (Both written and oral).

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or mechanical environment.

  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and components.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication skills and a willingness to learn and adapt.

  • Mentor less experienced technicians in complex mechanical assemblies, soldering, harness routing, inspection, in-process testing, precision cleaning, and structural fabrication.

  • Inspect, assemble, integrate, and operationally check flight hardware, as well as assemble, test, and maintain mechanical systems and components to meet specifications and standards.

  • Use high-precision measurement tools to ensure components meet specified tolerances while adhering to general best shop practices, including PPE and shop safety requirements.

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education,experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
