Summary:

Scotty's Contracting & Stone is seeking a motivated Heavy Civil Intern to join our team. This hands-on role offers real-world experience working directly on active construction jobsites, supporting daily operations across grading, utilities, and earthwork projects.Interns will work alongside experienced operators, foremen, and project teams to gain exposure to heavy equipment operations, site logistics, and field execution. This position is ideal for individuals looking to develop a strong foundation in heavy civil construction while learning how projects come together in the field.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with daily operations on active heavy civil jobsites
• Support crews with site preparation, grading, and excavation.
• Gain exposure to and assist around heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, and haul trucks
  
• Follow all safety protocols while working around equipment, traffic, and active work zones
• Provide general support to operators, foremen, and project teams as needed
  

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
• Strong interest in heavy civil construction and field operations
• Strong work ethic, communication skills, and willingness to learn
• Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Previous construction or equipment experience is a plus, but not required

Physical Requirements:

• Work Environment: Ability to work outdoors in a heavy civil construction setting with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions
• Proximity Hazards: Must remain alert and work safely around active equipment, moving vehicles, and traffic
• Climbing: Ability to safely climb on and off equipment and trucks (6+ feet) multiple times daily
• Mobility & Balance: Capable of walking and maintaining balance on uneven or slick surfaces
• Vision & Hearing: Adequate vision and hearing (corrected if necessary) to recognize safety hazards and respond to warnings
• Physical Activity: Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
