POSITION SUMMARY Using independent judgment, the Cyber Security Engineer serves as a key contributor in a hands-on role, collaborating with a cross-functional cybersecurity team to protect Lighthouse Credit Union's information systems. This position supports the effective administration of the organization's Information Security Program and plays a critical role in safeguarding systems, data, and operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, endpoint protection, log analysis, cyber forensics, audit preparedness, and the development and maintenance of security standards and procedural documentation. The Cyber Security Engineer administers and monitors security tools and technologies and assists in developing and implementing strategies that support both functional and security requirements across IT information systems. This role directly supports Lighthouse Credit Union's business goals by ensuring a secure, resilient, and compliant technology environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES * Monitors, tests, and reports on the Information Security Program to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and organizational data. * Monitors, investigates, and responds to security alerts across multiple security platforms, including EDR, NDR, SIEM, cloud security solutions, Active Directory, email security, data compliance tools, and other security monitoring technologies. * Assists with system configuration, tuning, and maintenance to enhance detection capabilities and provide reporting on security events and trends to management. * Designs, implements, and maintains security controls and technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, endpoint protection platforms, and other security infrastructure components. * Assists in the development, administration, and enforcement of IT security policies, standards, and procedures. * Conducts risk assessments, vulnerability management activities, and security audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., NIST, CIS, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS). * Supports incident response activities, including investigation, containment, remediation, and documentation of security events and incidents. * Creates and maintains security documentation, including system configurations, operational procedures, and incident response playbooks. * Supports internal and external audits by gathering required documentation and assisting with the remediation of audit findings and identified vulnerabilities. * Collaborates closely with IT, Infrastructure, Networking, Application, and Compliance teams to support security-related projects, organizational changes, and initiatives. Clearly communicate security requirements, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. * Develops and maintains security metrics, dashboards, reports, and presentations for IT leadership and organizational stakeholders. * Participates in security initiatives and projects, including system implementations, upgrades, recovery testing, security control validation, and other security-related project work as needed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS * Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat analysis, best practices, and emerging threats. * Proficient in threat analysis tools and cybersecurity software with an emphasis on preventing IT based crimes, hacking, intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction to the credit union's information systems, IT assets, and intellectual property. * Demonstrated knowledge of testing and implementing secure Operating Systems. * Working knowledge of User Verification, Network and Web Application-based Vulnerability Scanning, End Point Protections, SIEM, PAM, Firewalls and IDS/IPS devices. * Possess strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritization, and time management skills. Must analyze complicated factual situations and apply functional principles. * Must be able to work independently and is self-motivated; proactively takes the initiative to accomplish necessary tasks and seize new and often challenging opportunities. EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE * BS or BA in Cybersecurity, or Computer Sciences, or appropriate certifications (CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), etc.) combined with three years or more of relevant, applicable experience. * Minimum four to six years of similar or related experience in a Cybersecurity or IT related field. * Experience in monitoring and analysis for SIEM, firewall\IDPS and other logs, endpoint security management, incident response, basic scripting, security awareness initiatives, and analyzing phishing emails. * Knowledge of NIST Cybersecurity 2.0 and PCI DSS frameworks. * Must possess knowledge of authentication, encryption, network protocols, and VPN protocols. WORK ARRANGEMENT The working arrangement for this position is hybrid or remote. Hybrid work is an opportunity to find the right balance between working in the office and remotely, especially if it supports individual success and the needs of our organization. Hybrid schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business unit needs and may vary by department. Although a remote work arrangement may be authorized, those working in a remote position should expect occasional travel to headquarters or other business locations as necessary for work purposes.
