The University of Minnesota Genomics Center is hiring a skilled and experienced bioinformatics analyst to support the cutting-edge genomics services the Genomics Center provides to researchers and clinicians at the University of Minnesota, and to external academic and industry scientists.
The University of Minnesota Genomics Center exists to advance the use of genomics and achieves this mission by acquiring state-of-the-art instrumentation and offering an array of complete services, including sequencing, Next-generation Sequencing, long-read sequencing, expression analysis, genotyping, epigenomics, single-cell genomics, metagenomics, as well as related support services such as nucleic acid extraction and quality control. We strive to keep pace with the ever-broadening world of "omics" technologies and to expand our role at the University and the wider biotech community.
We seek a bioinformatician with broad software and analytical skills to join the University of Minnesota Genomics Center. This new position will include roles in our Operations, Development, and Research groups. The position will require the running, maintaining, and troubleshooting of specialized databases and software necessary to analyze data, as well as involvement in grant application and scientific publishing.

Job Responsibilities:

65% Analyze genomic datasets
* Processing of sequence data from Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, and Oxford Nanopore instruments,
* Investigating data quality issues
* Analysis of single-cell and spatial datasets
* Meet with customers to assist with experimental design, troubleshooting, and results interpretation

20% Assist the Development and Research groups with improving services, developing new services, analysis and interpretation of research project datasets
* Analyze datasets to assist with optimizing laboratory methods.
* Serve as the primary bioinformatics resource for the Genomics Center's Innovation Lab

15% Assist with the maintenance and development of the Genomics Center's informatics infrastructure
* Assist with data management
* Assist with analysis pipeline development
* Assist with computer system management
* Remain up to date on developments in the field

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Requires advanced degree with at least 6 years of experience or terminal degree plus at least 3 years of experience.
- Doctorate in computational or biological science field plus least 3 years of bioinformatics experience.
- Experience developing and executing analysis workflows for high-throughput sequence data.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $67-$70/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.

Work Profile: This position has been designated as Profile 3, Mostly Remote - is expected to typically work in the office/lab 1-2 days per week. Working remotely at least 3 days per week. Your dedicated office space will be in your remote work location.
