Job Summary

#CA-DK

The Lead Mammography Technologist must be fully competent in all facets of the mammography department: screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and biopsies. The incumbent provides expert-level technical support and coordinates and monitors the delivery of mammography services to ensure maximum efficiency. They will work closely with the leadership team to train and mentor junior staff members.

The Lead Mammography Technologist will collaborate with radiologists and other breast imaging healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of patient care and image quality. They ensure compliance with MQSA, ACR, and State of California standards, manage department workflow, and support ACR accreditation efforts. They also address technical issues with EPIC, PACS, and related systems, assist with developing department policies and procedures, and oversee image-quality monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
  • Valid CRT (Diagnostic Radiologic Technology) CA State License
  • Valid CRT (Mammographic Radiologic Technology) CA Mammography State License
  • ARRT Mammography Credential
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR required.
  • Applicant must be up to date on State requirements for Mammography Performance.
  • Digital 8 hour 2D and 3D certificate
  • Graduation from a Radiologic Technologist Program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
  • Performs 2D/3D screening mammography AND competently and regularly performs advanced mammography imaging, including Diagnostic mammography, Breast ultrasound and breast biopsy.
  • Comprehensive understanding of essential Mammography imaging and knowledge of Radiology equipment, supplies, and drugs.
  • Capably demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate radiographic and auxiliary equipment to produce a quality product. Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the radiological field advances.
  • Physical ability to capably perform all functions of a mammography technologist.
  • Skill to prioritize workload to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and dependability, i.e., (but not limited to): attendance, punctuality, positive attitude, initiation of duties not explicitly stated (linen, supplies, cleanliness of work area), maintenance/upkeep of equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities in using proper body mechanics when lifting and transporting patients and moving radiology equipment.
  • Ability to move and assist patients with limited mobility or special needs, seeking assistance as needed.
  • Flexibility to assist with mammography services at various locations as needed. Ability to maneuver portable Radiology equipment in tight places, sometimes with limited access.
  • Ability to move from location to location throughout the hospital and other campus (satellite) locations if needed.
  • Knowledge of health system and departmental policies and procedures sufficient to effectively perform job functions or refer to others.
  • Conveys instructions, directions and information appropriately.
  • Works at establishing a good rapport and professional working relationship with all department personnel.
  • Readily assists co-workers. Maintains appropriate interdepartmental communications.
  • Ability to learn and efficiently utilize all necessary health system electronic resources while maitaining patient privacy, and adhering to heath system and HIPPA regulations.
  • Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise.
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English.

Department Specific Job Scope

Work routines are guided by established procedures and protocols; quality of work performed is approved or reviewed by the Lead mammogrpahy technologist, quality control technologist, Supervisor or appropriate radiologist. The incumbent operates various types of Mammography equipment to provide diagnostic images for interpretation by a radiologist. The individual will maintain and operate equipment according to manufacturers' operation manual. The individual will comply and adhere to department protocols, UCDHS Policies and Procedures, Department of Radiology Policies and Procedures and other applicable workrules and regulations. The technologist must act with initiative and responsibility to achieve maximum radiographic quality. All duties and responsibilities will be performed calmly in stressful situations and interact with radiologists, clinicians and peers in a cooperative, harmonious manner for maximum effectiveness. Incumbent must be able to satisfactorily perform all job functions deemed by the Department of Radiology.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
