Job Description

Performs packing, preservation, and preparation for shipment of material and equipment. Plans, designs, and develops packages to protect supplies, materials, and equipment between the time of purchase and use, including prevention of environmental and mechanical damage during handling, shipping, and storage. Provides support to other functional areas to include Receiving and Disposal.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Determines the best method of packaging particular materials; establishes packaging standards

* Develops or reviews packaging specifications; evaluates packaging methods; advises on packaging matters

* Measures, cuts, and assembles crates and containers

* Packages or preserves parts in storage to prevent damage or corrosion

* Operates packing and preservation equipment

* Measures equipment to determine correct container size

* Performs after-hours, weekend, and emergency callback services as required

* Performs the work of the Receiving/Delivery Specialist positions to include tasks such as performing personnel office moves, delivering goods to customer locations and other duties, as required

* Performs the work of the Excess/Disposal Management Specialist and the Storage Management Specialist positions to include tasks such as labeling and picking up excess materials, disposing of excess in accordance with Government guidelines and performing other warehouse duties, as required

* Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications



* High school graduate or equivalent

* Three years' experience in packing and crating

* Must possess a valid motor vehicle and material handling equipment operator's license

* Certification as a forklift operator

* Ability to perform computerized tasks as required

* Familiarity with woodworking equipment

* Must possess and maintain certifications for Shipping Dangerous Goods (CFR 49/IATA/IMDG/Military Air Transport)

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

* Ability to operate material handling equipment

* Ability to pass a NASA WFF forklift physical

* Physically capable of performing manual labor with ability to lift boxes weighing up to 75 pounds

* Subject to exposure to fumes originating from gas, diesel, oils, and other fuels

* Must be to work with and trained to handle hazardous materials

* Ability to stoop, bend, push and pull.

* Must possess basic computer literacy skills to include the use of the World Wide Web, operative skills regarding MS Office programs (Word and Excel)

* The work of this position is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements

* Must be a U.S. Citizen

* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions

* Must be able to successfully complete a background screening

* Must possess or be able to obtain a public trust clearance prior to employment and maintain public trust clearance for the duration of employment

Rate of Pay/Benefits

Hourly Rate: $28.14

Benefits Information
