Position: Water System Operator Job Status: Open – applications accepted until position is filled Compensation: $29.04 to $49.76/ hour DOE/Q
North Perry Avenue Water District, located in Bremerton, Washington, is seeking a full-time Water System Operator to join our team. We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual who takes initiative and is eager to learn. No prior experience is required; however, related experience in the water industry and/or construction can be a plus.
This position supports the construction, operation and maintenance activities essential to ensuring reliability and quality of the district’s water supply and distribution system.
This position reports directly to the Field Operations Supervisor and follows a four-day workweek schedule, Monday through Thursday from 6: 30 a.m. to 5: 00 p.m.
Benefits and Salary
- Hourly pay of $29.04 to $49.76, depending on experience and qualifications
- Combined leave accrual of 16 hours per month
- 12 Paid holidays per year
- 4/10 work schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6: 30am – 5: 00pm

Example of Duties:
- Install, inspect, repair and maintain water mains, service lines, meters, fire hydrants, and other
distribution components.
- Perform maintenance on water system facilities, including treatment systems, pumps, buildings,
and reservoirs
- Respond to routine customer service requests as assigned by the office or supervisor
- Participate in an on-call standby rotation to respond to after-hours emergencies, service
disruptions, and urgent maintenance needs as required
- Maintain accurate work records and enter data into the asset management system
- Conduct meter reading as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Necessary Skills and Abilities:
- Communicate clearly and effectively, including verbal, written and electronic communication
- Ability to consistently deliver high quality work both collaboratively within a team and
independently with minimal supervision
- Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license
- Ability to meet insurance requirements
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform semi-heavy labor in a variety of weather conditions; must be available to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends in emergency situations
- Current Washington State Water Worker certification (meeting the current district minimum requirement of WDM 1), or the ability to obtain it within 24 months
- Current Washington State Cross-Connection certification, or the ability to obtain it within 24 months
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months
- Current flagging and traffic control certifications, or the ability to obtain it within 6 months
- Possess a valid Washington State commercial driver’s license (CDL A), or the ability to obtain it within 36 months
