Job Description:

TheTechnical Staff Applications Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible forproductcentric applications engineering and product definitionin direct support of a mixedsignaland analogbusiness unit. The role has a strong emphasis onADCsand related mixedsignal devices, including DACs and digital potentiometers.
This positionworks closely withproduct marketing,architecture, design engineering,product,validation, and test teams throughout the newproductdevelopment lifecycle. Additionally, this position supportsthe sustaining and lifecycle of the assigned device family.
Core responsibilities include:
  • Serve as anapplications engineering subjectmatter expertfor assigned mixedsignal product families
  • Author, maintain, and drivenew device specificationsthrough defined milestones, capturing product goals, key features, specifications, application requirements, etc.
  • Translate customer needs, market input, and application use cases intoclear product requirements andkeyspecification parameters, including identification of nonnegotiable specifications
  • Collaborate withdesign engineering duringearly specificationdesignengagement phasesto evaluate architecture tradeoffs, update blocklevel definitions, and refine specifications
  • Develop and maintainapplication collateralincluding application notes, design guides, reference designs, demo documentation, and evaluation board support materials
  • Design, review, and validatereference hardwaresolutions, including schematic capture, layout guidance, bringup, and lab characterization
  • Create, debug, and maintainembedded firmware/software enablement(drivers, APIs, example projects) for MCUbased data acquisition and mixedsignal control
  • Performhandson labbenchevaluation and characterizationof new devices
  • Support product release readiness bywriting/reviewingdatasheets,specificationderived collateral, and evaluation materialsfor technical accuracy and consistency
  • Delivertechnical trainingto internal teams and selected customers, including product operation, systemlevel design considerations, and best practices
  • Perform level 2 customer support
  • Providetechnical guidance and mentoringto junior applications engineers within thebusiness unit

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and10+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in mixedsignal and/or analog, with strong handson exposure to ADCs, and/or potentially other mixed signal (DAC, Digital Potentiometer, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of ADC fundamentals: sampling networks, reference design, input drive/settling, aliasing, noise sources, and performance metrics
  • Experience contributing to and/or owning product requirements and/or device definition
  • Proficiency in embedded programmingfor MCUbased data acquisition and peripheral interfaces (e.g., SPI/IC)
  • Experience with PCB design and hardware bringup, including use of standard lab instrumentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate across teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting multichannel and highspeed SAR ADC systems
  • Experience with analog mixed-mode simulations (AMS)
  • Experience with post-silicon bench validation
  • Experiencewith developing, or driving development, of customer enablement tools to support the customers'journeys
  • Experience with hostside software tools (e.g., Python, C#, C++) or Linux driver development.
  • Prior experience developing and delivering technical training or workshops
  • Prior experience interfacing with customer (technical interactions, discovery, training, etc.)
  • Background in signalchain design and systemlevel debugging

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $91,000 - $232,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
